NEXT GENERATION REPORT PROMOTING THE OIL & GAS INDUSTRY TO YEARS 8 10 STUDENTS The Next Generation program is well underway, with 9 of the 12 schools having already completed their first mentor visit. The mentors provided a presentation on the petroleum industry along with an interactive experiment to further engage the students in oil extraction. EDUCATION... NEXT GENERATION - FIRST MENTOR VISIT We ve expanded the 2016 program to include students in years 7 through to year 10, and we re delighted to be receiving such positive feedback from all age groups. They re showing a keen interest in the industry and an excitement to compete against the other schools to win a fantastic prize, thanks to IFAP and SPE. 2nd Mentor Visit With the first mentor visit now complete, many of the mentors are planning the second visit, to take place in term 2. The second mentor visit involves a mentor panel, which sees 3-4 industry mentors presenting on their own career and experiences. This gives students the opportunity to hear from various careers within the industry, educating them on the diversity of the industry and preparing them for the project deliverable in term 3. Seeking Panel Mentors If you re interested in being a part of the program then it s not too late! We are still seeking panel mentors to assist with our 2nd mentor visits which are coming up over the coming weeks. If you re an energetic, positive role model who loves sharing your knowledge to the next generation then we d love to hear from you. We have had specific requests for panel mentors from Environmental backgrounds, so if this is your field, we invite you to apply. To learn more or to sign up as a mentor, please contact the office. Project Deliverable We have simplified the Next Generation program for 2016 and now only have the 1 project deliverable. Students are asked to form groups and prepare a 5-7 minute presentation on their chosen career within the industry. The class mentor and teacher will work together to mark the presentations and the winning group will be invited to attend the Student Expo Day held at Curtin University on Friday 2nd September. The top performing groups will be awarded with some fantastic prizes from IFAP and SPE. If you think that you or your organisation may have something to contribute to the exhibition, please contact the office to find out more. All proceeds will go to our Next Generation school education program. Steven Baseley ESI Tech Services Steven Caron Schlumberger SAD PASSING OF PETER ROBERT HUDSON For those that were not aware, we sadly lost a past Board of Governor of the Club, Peter Robert Hudson, over Christmas last year in a vehicle accident. Peter was happily married for nearly 34 years to his soul mate Deborah and they had 2 beautiful children Catherine and David. Peter served on our Board in 2014 and was very much involved in our Next Generation school education program, and continued his passion for helping people with mentoring and volunteering at schools with teenage boys in the years after. Peter impacted many lives and will be sorely missed, taken too soon but his family are at peace knowing he is now with God, with whom he had a strong faith. We dedicate this remembrance to Deborah, Catherine and David and to all those that knew him. FAREWELL KATE McCARTHY We farewell Kate McCarthy at the end of this month. Kate has been a great support for myself and the Club over the last 3 years. Kate will be at the next Industy Dinner on 10th May where we can say goodbye and wish her well.
