PROGRAM & CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION (CME) INFORMATION COURSE DESCRIPTION The MDS-PAS 1st Summer School on Neuromodulation for Movement Disorders will provide a unique opportunity for neurologists, neurosurgeons, nurses, psychiatrists, neuropsychologists, and other health allied personnel to receive an overview on current neuromodulation techniques with a particular emphasis on hands-on teaching with live patients and real time programming sessions. Topics will focus on all aspects of this surgical modality for Parkinson s disease, dystonia, and tremor. The course program will be divided in the morning and afternoon, with introductory lectures on Neuromodulation. During these lectures, interaction between faculty and attendees will be encouraged with dedicated time for Q&A. The afternoon will be an opportunity for the attendees to get to know the different steps that lead to a successful neuromodulation beginning with selection of surgical candidates, establishing surgical strategies for lead implantation, including imaging and neurophysiology recordings. Finally, attendees will experience how to program and follow patients with DBS, and engage in a constructive discussion with international experts. LEARNING OBJECTIVES After participating in this activity, the learner will be able to: Provide an elementary overview of neurostimulation for movement disorders, including putative mechanisms of action, surgical techniques and intraoperative microrecording; Identify the criteria for selection, and ultimately successful referral, of movement disorders patients for Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS); Recognize the expected outcomes after DBS in movement disorders patients and potential problems; Discuss the core concepts of DBS programming in movement disorders patients and integration of DBS in the patient long-term management plan. TARGET AUDIENCE This program is designed for Movement disorder specialists, neurologists with interest in movement disorders, functional neurosurgeons, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, neuropsychologists and other health-allied personnel, and trainees who have interest in deep brain stimulation surgery and want to strengthen their knowledge in this field. OVERALL GOAL STATEMENT The goal of this program is to provide information and practical information on various developments and standards within the field of Movement Disorders. 4

Amedco is jointly accredited by the American Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
