Purpose and Benefit The purpose of this handbook is to familiarize you with the C.L.E.A.N. Slate Alumni Association. The benefit of this handbook is learning the opportunities available to you as alumni of the DeKalb County Drug/DUI Court Program. promote healthy lifestyles, positive change, and lifelong sobriety Mission Statement The mission of the DeKalb County C.L.E.A.N. Slate Alumni Association (CSAA) is to promote healthy lifestyles, positive change, and lifelong sobriety through a supportive, self-governed, and safe network of C.L.E.A.N. Slate graduates and pregraduates. Meeting Information The CSAA meets the 2 nd Wednesday of every month at 5:00pm in a consistent location. A monthly newsletter is produced for all CSAA members to provide meeting agendas, as well as information about past and upcoming events. Additionally, this information can also be found on the CSAA Facebook page. Page 2
Opportunity 1: Speakers Bureau All CSAA members have the chance to voluntarily participate in the Speakers Bureau. Those who participate in this Bureau are provided with an outlet to share their experiences and triumphs with others who may be at risk. It also serves the purpose of educating the community about the benefits of living a sober life. Opportunity 2: Mentor Program Alumni who are interested in becoming mentors may do so with the CSAA. CSAA mentors are matched with a pre-graduate and have the chance to help current program participants deal with any problems they may be experiencing face-to-face. Opportunity 3: Relapse Panel CSAA members who do not feel comfortable becoming a mentor but still want the chance to help others may join the the CSAA Relapse Panel. This panel consists of members who agree to be available to give guidance via telephone to other members or current Drug/DUI Court participants in Page 3
the event that someone is concerned about or has relapsed. Opportunity 4: Officer Positions Officer positions for the CSAA consist of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Public Relations Officer. The Secretary heads the Social/Recreational Events Committee and is responsible for recording the minutes of meetings. The Treasurer heads the Fundraising Committee and is responsible for keeping record of the Association s budget and preparing financial reports as needed. The Public Relations Officer heads the Community Service/Assistance Committee and is responsible for maintaining the Facebook page. The Vice President heads the Mentor Program and Relapse Panel and is responsible for making mentor matches, scheduling mentor/mentee meetings, and keeping records of members who serve on the Panel and/or Program. The President heads the Speaker s Bureau and is responsible for continuing the newsletter in the Aftercare Coordinator s (Board member) absence. The President is also Page 4
responsible for scheduling participating members of the Speaker s Bureau to speak in the community and at the jail. *Please see the CSAA Bylaws for further information at http://www.dekalbcounty.org/court/drugcourt.html Opportunity 5: Committees There are three Committees within the CSAA: (1) Social/Recreational Events (2) Fundraising (3) Community Service/Assistance. CSAA members who are not interested in an Officer position will become a part of a committee. Members are free to choose their committee. The Social/Recreational Events Committee is responsible for planning and executing the social events of the Association. The Fundraising Committee is responsible for planning and executing the fundraising events of the association.
