Hello Fellow Lions! Another month has passed. We are now into the month of March, which is Regional Speak- Out month. Have your Regional Speak-Out completed and ready for the District Speak-Out in Gander, April 14, 2012. March is also Club and District Officers Nomination Month. Give some thought as to what you can do to serve your Club or your District. We now have 1, 249 members, but we need 1, 250 so that Lions P.D.G. Lion Sam Wells and P.D.G/P.C.C. Lion Len Mooney can offer themselves for International Director. If you know of potential members, get them in and registered before our Lions Convention at Gander, Apr 13 th 15 th, 2012. Make plans to attend our Lions Convention at Gander. Elections will be held at this convention, so make sure your club dues are up to date. Otherwise, you won t be able to vote. I look forward to seeing you there! Until next month, take care and keep up the good work for Lionism! FROM 1 ST VICE-DISTRICT GOVERNOR Lions, We are coming up to a very busy time of the Lions year where we will be responsible for many things besides our normal Lions activities. All clubs should be in the process of choosing their board of directors for next year. I encourage all Lions to share their talents and skills with those in your club. Don t be afraid to take on that president s role, membership chair or tail twister, etc. There are enough people around who have done the job to give you any assistance you might need. At the zone level, Lions are being encouraged to become next year s zone chair. Hopefully new Lions names will be brought to the meetings for consideration. Wouldn t it be nice if we could have some elections for zone chair? Elections will be taking place at the N4 Convention in Gander, April 13-15. We will have to elect a Lion to a four-year term on the Board of Directors of the Lion Max Simms Memorial camp; a Lion for a three year position on the Lions Quest Foundation; and a 2 nd Vice-District Governor. Lion Ray Pardy and I would appreciate your votes to confirm us in the positions of 1 st Vice-District Governor and District Governor respectively. At the Gander convention several notices of motion presented by the Budget and Audit Committee will be voted on. These notices of motion are recorded in the St. John s Convention minutes from the general meeting. Club delegates will get direction from their clubs as for whom they will vote and how they will vote on the various motions. Hope to see many of you in Gander and keep living the Lions slogan We Serve. Yours in Lionism, Lion Gail

FROM 2 ND VICE DISTRICT GOVERNOR Hi Fellow Lions, First I would like to wish everyone a Happy Easter holiday next week, we re now entering the final quarter of this Lions year, a time to reflect back on what we ve accomplished to date and to fulfill our commitments for the year. Elections are coming up in Gander for the International Director and also for Governor, 1 st and 2 nd VD Governor. Also there are many important positions to be filled on the District both as Chair and Committee members, please consider offering yourself as candidates to fill these positions. Membership: As of Apr 01 we have 1261 members in our District N4, and we need to maintain our numbers for two reasons. To allow our candidates to run for International Director and also to hold on to our District that requires we have 35 clubs and 1250 members. Congratulation to the newly formed MUN Campus Club. I am sure they will live up to the Lions motto We Serve in all their future endeavours. With spring just around the corner, don t forget to take the challenge to plant at least three trees as asked by our International President Wing-Kum Tam. Thank you for your M & A reports, keep up the good work. Hope to see you in Gander. Yours in Lionism Lion Ray

Fellow Lions, Since the St. John's Convention I have only heard from 2 or 3 clubs in the District that have been involved with the eyeglasses recycling project. If you wish to be recognized in my report in Gander I will need to know soon. I also would like to report on any activities that you have been involved with in respect to work with the Blind. For example, the St. John's Lions Club assisted the Canadian Council of the Blind (CCB) to celebrate White Cane Week by hosting and competing with them in a cribbage tournament and bowling tournament. They later enjoyed a fun night of curling with the Blind Curlers. Pouch Cove and Goulds Lions once again challenged the Blind Curlers in a fun night of curling for White Cane Week. The St. John's, St. John's Health Care, Goulds, Mount Pearl, CBS, Portugal Cove-St. Phillips and Pouch Cove Lions are heavily involved in an Organizing Committee and providing volunteer assistance for the many activities that will be happening as the CCB-St. John's Branch, E.A. Baker Club hosts the 2012 Atlantic Sports and Recreation Weekend for the Visually Impaired. If there are any other clubs or individual Lions that will be in the St. John's area from Friday, May 18 to Sunday, May 20 we would love to hear from you. All Volunteers are gladly welcomed. I will also remind all clubs in N4 that we have been requested to assist in a fundraising effort by Lions Clubs of Nova Scotia and PDG Len Giffen. This is in support of the World Blind Golf Championships which will be played in Nova Scotia starting July 17, 2012. Blind Golfers from many countries will be competing in this event. Tickets are $5.00 each or 3 for $10.00. Prizes include: Two (2) West Jet Tickets to fly anywhere West Jet flies; Jack Nicklas Replica Irons; and a Package of ten (10) Golf Green Fees. First Place Winner gets choice of either prize; Second Place Winner gets choice of remaining two prizes; and Third Place Winner receives the remaining prize. If you or your club wish to purchase tickets to support our Blind Canadian Golfers in hosting this event, please see Don Connolly during the Gander Convention or phone me at 726-5975 or email donaldconnolly@hotmail.com See you in Gander. District N 4 DISASTER FUND March 30, 2012 Hi Lions Last year we established a Disaster Fund to help those in need if we should have another disaster such as IGOR. We need to have sufficient funds to help as many areas as possible if the need arises. Maybe at your clubs or your Zone meetings you might budget some money for this project that at some time will benefit disaster victims around our district. An idea would be to put off a special project to get the funding, as we know you never know when such an event like IGOR will happen Hopefully we will never experience another IGOR but if we do, we will be prepared to help in a more timely fashion. Think about it, talk about it at your clubs and your zones and if you have any money to spare bring it along to Gander, thanks for your help as this can be a great project for everyone in our district. Yours in Lionism Lion Sam Lion Sam Wells
