MND Drive 2016 The Adventure The Motor Neurone Disease Association of WA (MNDAWA) is calling all keen adventurers, driving enthusiasts and passionate fundraisers to join us on the MND Drive Southwest Adventure from Friday 21 Sunday 23 October 2016. As part of the Drive convoy you will head off the beaten track on a 3-day road-trip to raise much needed awareness and funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND). The route and journey through the Southwest is being kept a secret but will be one you have unlikely travelled. You will experience plenty of hidden gems, fun activities, make new friends and enjoy entertainment along the way. The MND Drive is the perfect opportunity to get together a group of your friends, family or colleagues to experience a road-trip of a lifetime while raising funds for a very worthy cause. Day 1 The MND Drive 2016 will kick off on Friday 21 October from ATOM Stadium, the home of our long term supporters the East Fremantle Football Club. From there we will head south with plenty of twists and turns before arriving at our first overnight stop in Busselton, The Abbey Beach Resort. Our evening entertainment and dinner will be held at the vibrant The Beer Farm, a newly established brewery which has been converted from a sheep shearing shed. Day 2 There is not much we can share about Day 2 other than it is costume day. Participants are encouraged to wear their brightest and finest costume, hat or wig. Each stop on the day remains top secret as we lead you to the second overnight stop the Mystery Destination. Nestled amongst one of the beautiful Southwest Forests you will be treated to seeing plenty of Australia s wildlife and learn some interesting history. Day 3 The MND Drive will finish on Day 3 with a fundraising lunch in Bunbury. Day 3 is also blue day, representing the blue cornflower, MND s international symbol of hope. Participants are encourage to wear all blue on the day. Family and friends who are not on the Drive are welcome to join in for the final event where we will hand out prizes and the greatly acclaimed MND Drive trophy for the highest fundraising team.
The Accommodation What you need to know the FAQs Night 1: Participants are required to book their own accommodation for the first night at Abbey Beach Resort, Busselton. It is highly recommended that you book your accommodation well in advance so that you are able to secure the right room for your needs. Room bookings range from $73.75 per person. Night 2: To secure your place at The Mystery Destination complete the accommodation form supplied in your registration pack or download it from www.mnddrive.com.au. Disabled access accommodation is available at the Mystery Destination but limited so please complete your forms in advance. Type of Vehicle The Drive has been planned so that it is suitable for all types of vehicles, shapes and sizes, that are licenced and road-worthy. There are sections where you will be instructed to self-drive from one point to another and are able to choose your own route to take your vehicle on. There may be sections on convoy where we venture onto unsealed roads, however these are suitable for any road worthy, licenced vehicle. We highly recommend that you have your vehicle serviced prior to embarking on the MND Drive 2016 and encourage you to have Roadside Assist for the weekend. Please note if you would like to register a larger vehicle (e.g Coaster Bus) it needs to be approved by the Drive Event Committee upon registration. What to bring The MND Drive is a casual event and there are no formal dress requirements other than the specified costume days. October weather in the Southwest sees fresh spring days with average temperatures between 10-22 C. We recommend that you bring some warmer clothes for the evening as temperatures can be cooler. Although rain is uncommon during this time of year in the region it is always good to be prepared. What does my registration fee cover? Each participant is required to pay $150 registration fee. This fee covers all basic meals over the course of the event and entry into the sub events or activities on the Drive. Basic non-alcoholic beverages are provided. The individual registration fee also includes event merchandise (polo shirt and hat) and all necessary car decals for decorating the team s car. All additional event expenses including accommodation and fuel are at the participant s expense. How much do I have to fundraise and how do I do it? Each team (comprising of up to 4 people) are required to fundraise a minimum of $3,000 per vehicle they enter. Teams can set up their own fundraising page at www.mnddrive.com.au. The Motor Neurone Disease Association of WA (MNDAWA) is committed to providing specialist care and support services for people living with MND, their carers and families in Western Australia. MNDAWA provides case coordination and emotional support through our MND Advisory Service, connecting people living with MND to the services that they require. The Association also provides education and information sessions, support groups, equipment, wheelchair accessible transport, and funding options. Our mission is to be the specialist organisation in WA to encourage and enhance participation in normal life activities of people living with MND, recognising the need for quality of life, personal dignity, raising awareness, as well as supporting and advocating research relating to MND. * Each participant will be required to complete an individual participant entry form.
