Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 14 PO Box 11 Watertown, MA 02471 DECEMBER 2014 NEWSLETTER AOH President s Message We had another successful Turkey Shoot this year thanks to all the folks who came out and especially to our volunteers; Janice, Carol, Mary, Jeanine, Doreen, Harry, Buddy, Bob, Desi, Jimmy and all the kids who did all the running. The Children s Christmas party went extremely well thanks to all the efforts of Heidi, VP Leo The Brow Falter and all of Santa s helpers. The hall was full and by the looks of it everyone had a great time. The Division Family Supper this past month had a decent turnout but the numbers continue to be lower than expectation. Dick, Dave and the crew have done a great job managing output versus consumption that said we will continue to reassess where we are at sometime around the end of the first quarter of next year. Nollaig Shona Merry Christmas In keeping with the spirit of our religious observance it s that time of year to place lighted candles in our windows. While we celebrate and enjoy the company of friends and family during this Christmas Season let s be mindful of the fact that many others are not as fortunate. I think it is especially important to pray for those whom we know and don t know that may be going through a difficult time during this Christmas Season. As we come to the end of another year I d like to take this opportunity to thank all who have in one way or another supported our Division and Club. You guys and ladies are the best. Let s keep it rolling and maybe we can make next year even better. I know there is always room for improvement. One last reminder please don t forget to vote for your Division in the Watertown Savings Bank Customer Choice Awards. Yours in Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity, Joseph P. McCusker Jr. 2

LAOH President s Message Dear Ladies, here we are nearing Christmas. The year 2014 has flown by all of us. On Dec. 2 nd the LAOH 14 was represented by Pat Falter, Margaret Winston, Eileen Waldron and I at the Catholic TV Mass. After the Mass we gave Father Reed a check from the division in memory of all our departed members and asked that he pray for all our sick and homebound members. Fr. Reed was very happy to receive it; he said we became part of Giving Tuesday that day. Our December Meeting was held on Saturday, Dec. 6 th at The Talk Restaurant with 21 members present. Thank you, Jeanine Brown, for all your work making the Luncheon a success. The following day I attended the State Board Meeting in Worcester. Anna Crimmins won a raffle at that meeting. Thank you to all members that purchased tickets. A Committee will be formed to work on the State Convention to be held in Hyannis next year. More information to follow. From all the reports I have heard the AOH Children's Christmas Party held the same day was a huge success. Santa came to Watertown and was a hit. If only an MA AOH LAOH Yearly Calendar could be produced so that events would not conflict statewide. As of yesterday, Peg Little said only three members owed dues for this year. My calls and emails worked! Thank you for your response. Remember ladies, dues for 2015 will be due as of 1-1-15. Tuesday, Dec. 9 th, I received the results of the MRI and x- rays and was told I will need extensive surgery and recovery on my shoulder. The doctor said recovery will take 2-3 months. I was finally able to contact Mary Logue this afternoon to discuss covering the office while I would not be able. Mary said she cannot do it as she has many commitments to the Irish Cultural Center. I spoke tonight with Sue McCallum, Nominating Chair, and it is back to the committee to find officers for 2015. Unless someone is able to take charge while I m recuperating, I feel it is unfair to the division to leave it in Limbo for three months. Hopefully, someone will step forward. Our next scheduled meeting will be March 9 th. Scheduled Fund Raisers in 2015 are: Ham-O-Rama, Saturday, March 28, a Fashion Show, Sunday, April 12th and an Indoor Yard Sale in the Fall. Please mark your calendars accordingly. I sincerely wish each of you all the Blessings of the Christmas Season and a Happy, Healthy New Year. Yours in Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity, Mary B. Ryan, President 3

This past year we did not receive a Customer Choice Award from Watertown Savings Bank. We fell short because the competition for these monetary awards has become tougher and quite frankly we just didn t advertise it enough to the membership. Please find below all the information you will need to vote for the AOH Division 14 Watertown to receive an award for calendar year 2014. If you are receiving this newsletter via email please follow the link below. If you are a WSB Bank Customer and cannot vote on-line please make sure to place your vote next time you go to the Bank. Just ask someone at the Bank and I m sure they will help you with your vote. Each year Watertown Savings Bank sets aside $75,000 to distribute to non-profits through the Customer Choice Awards. The program provides customers with the opportunity to influence how the bank distributes funds in the community. Deadline to vote in 2014 is December 31. Please follow this link www.watertownsavings.com/community/cast_vote.html PLEASE NOTE THAT THE VOTING WILL END IN 16 DAYS. THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO VOTE FOR YOUR DIVISION! 8
