ARIZONA STATE CAPITOL CHAPTER OF NIGP MAY / JUNE 2018 The Official Newsletter of the Arizona State Capitol Chapter of NIGP President s message Dear AZNIGP Members, Our next event will be the May luncheon meeting on Tuesday, May 8. This meeting is open to any nonmember to attend for free. Please bring a non-member from your agency as a guest for free so you can show them what we do and how we do it. Congratulations to our NIGP National Forum Scholarship winners. Jesse Atoigue, Arizona Department of Child Safety; Irma Guzman, Maricopa County Procurement Services; Cyndi Hawk, City of Surprise; Susan Holt, Arizona Department of Environmental Quality; and Bill Munch, Valley Schools. They will be going to Nashville, TN in August on a full ride scholarship. Thank you for your commitment to professional development and thank you scholarship committee for your due diligence and thorough evaluation of all scholarship applications. Our Reverse Trade Show held on April 9 at the Mesa Convention Center was a huge success. We had 40 agencies in attendance and over 700 vendors that walked through the day of the event. Thank you, Jess Romney, Committee Chair, and the rest of the RTS committee for planning this annual event. One last note, Good Luck to all the hopeful candidates who will be taking their certification exam for either the CPPB or CPPO. Review sessions were held in March and April and there will be many members taking their exam this month. Good Luck and I know everyone will do great. Again, thank you for all that you do as members and volunteers of this great organization of ours. P A G E 4 Purchasing Month Activities Several agencies celebrated Procurement Month in March and included are their pictures from their celebrations. Valley Metro Thank you for recognizing our profession! Valley Metro hosted an open house that included a Plinko Trivia Game, Trivia Wheel, 2 Truths and Lie Game, and various other stations. Looks like a lot of fun! Town of Queen Creek The Town of Queen Creek celebrated and recognized Procurement Month with an open house that included NIGP & State Proclamations, Refreshments, Handouts on the Procurement Process, and a survey on what Procurement training staff is interested in. At the end of March, they held a Lunch-N-Learn on the most requested training as a result of the survey and provided a light lunch. Way to go Town of Queen Creek!

R everse Trade Show Pictures P A G E 5 The Arizona State Capitol Chapter of NIGP recently conducted its 7th Annual Reverse Trade Show on April 9th at the Mesa Convention Center. We had 40 agencies represented and over 700 vendors registered for the event. We would like to thank you for attending our event. Without the support of all of you and your agencies, we wouldn t be able to sponsor such events and we sincerely hope it proves to be fruitful for all. A special Thank You to Jess Romney, City of Mesa and his committee for putting on this event. Lots of time and hard work went into making it a huge success!

P A G E 7 Pat s run Several members turned out for the 14th annual Pat s Run held on Saturday, April 21, 2018, in downtown Tempe. It was an amazing day full of inspiration and excitement. Thank you, members, for your participation and honoring Pat Tillman. NIGP Forum 2018 Attending the NIGP Forum is a great experience and wonderful opportunity. Attendance at Forum not only benefits the chapter but it is a great venue to increase professional development and earn those coveted certification and recertification points. For all those members that plan on attending National this year please register at www.aznigp.org to attend the chapter dinner being held on Tuesday, August 21, 2018. In appreciation, the chapter will pay for your dinner (member only) that night. It allows us time together with members and family who have also traveled with you.

P A G E 8 Charity news Each year, the Arizona Department of Child Safety receives 50,000 reports of child abuse and neglect. Helen s Hope Chest was created as a service of Mesa United Way in 2009 to help provide basic needs and support to these children once they enter the foster care system. Did you know there are: 5,000 licensed foster homes in Arizona 40,000 estimated number of children cared for by kinship relatives $0.45 average basic needs assistance stipend per day per child $185 estimated value of goods received at HHC per child per visit 650 children Served at Helen s Hope Chest each month HOW TO HELP Financial Contributions Volunteer Donate Needed Items: Clothing of All Sizes Hygiene Supplies School Supplies Books, Birthday Gifts, & More Please bring needed items to any chapter luncheon meeting, career seminar, and regional conference.
