Weekly Highlights 09-15 August 2017 # of Provinces # of ND incidents Reported # of Joint Assessments Completely Destroyed Severely Moderately Deaths Injured # of Assisted by IOM Assisted by IOM 2 9 9 15 105 0 0 0 4 5 0 0 15 105 Natural Disasters, Coordination and DRR activity UPDATE: 09-15 August 2017 Khost: As per initial reports obtained from ANDMA on 14 August, as a result of flood; seven families were reportedly affected and two persons were killed in Matun, Tani, Mosa khail and Nader sha kot districts. The join assessment team consisting of ANDMA, IRC, CARE, RRD and ARCS initiated assessment on 15 August in the mentioned districts except Mosa Khail district. The assessment in Mosa Khail district is pending due to security concerns, the results of the assessment will be available once the teams return from the field Kuner: As per initial reports obtained from ANDMA on 11 August, as a result of rainfall, eight families were reportedly affected, two persons were killed and five others sustained injuries in Nari, Shigal, Asadbad, Chawki and Nurgal districts. The join assessment team consisting of IOM, ANDMA and WFP will initiate assessment on 15 August and distributed recommended assistance following the assessment. Balkh: As per initial report by district governor of Kaldar and Shortepa districts; during July, 676 families were reportedly affected by river bank erosion in Kaldar and Shortepa districts. A joint assessment team consisting of IOM, ANDMA, OHW and WFP conduct assessment and found 489 families affected (333 Kaldar, Shortepa 156). The houses of the affected families were destroyed by the Amu river bank erosion and were forced to leave their residence. The affected families had enough time to take their household items due to slow on set nature of the disaster however the joint assessment team recommended Food items to all displaced families and family tents/emergency shelter to 15 families who were living in open space. IOM distributed family tents and emergency shelter module to 15 families and WFP distributed food items to all 489 displaced families.
