2 Weekly Highlights July 2017 # of Provinces # of ND incidents Reported # of Joint Assessments Completely Destroyed Severely Moderately Deaths Injured # of Assisted by IOM Assisted by IOM , , Natural Disasters, Coordination and DRR activity UPDATE: July, 2017 Nangarhar: As a result of wind-storm on 16 July, 141 families were reportedly affected in Chaprehar, Kama, Rodat, Behsood and Surkhrod districts. IOM together with ANDMA, IRC, IMC and WFP initiated assessment on 18 July. 42 families have been identified and recommended for relief items. Of these 42 families, 20 families houses were severely damaged and 10 houses were completely destroyed for which IOM will distribute household items, blankets, emergency shelter and tarpaulin, WFP will distribute food items and ANDMA will distribute food items to 12 families whose houses were moderately damaged. The distribution of the relief items will take place on 18 July. - Surkhrod District: As a result of wind-storm on 16 July, 40 families were reportedly affected in Said Ishaq Gelani village, SCI and ANDMA mobilized assessment team 18 July and expected to complete by 19 July. The same caseload was assessed by IOM few weeks ago and no one were found affected. SCI and ANDMA will conduct assessment of the families and will share the findings. Kunar: A thunder/lightening case was reported in Chapa Dara district, one house was reportedly damaged, one person killed and three others sustained injuries. ANDMA will verify the report and will assess the needs of the affected family. Takhar: As per initial report obtained from ANDMA 70 families were reportedly affected by water uprising on 25 June The incident is reported late due to insecurity in the area. Access to the area is not possible by humanitarian organization, ANDMA is coordinating with agencies and will refer the caseload to ARCS depending on their access to the areas. Balkh: As per initial information obtained from district governor of Kaldar and ANDMA Balkh, reportedly 400 families were affected by river bank erosion in Kaldar district. A joint assessment team consisting of IOM, ANDMA, OHW and WFP initiated an assessment on 18 July, the assessment results is expected by next week. In as separate incident, 276 families were reported affected by riverbank erosion in Chaqir, Arigh batur, Bashirly and Shaikh Villages of Shortepa District. A joint assessment team consisting of IOM, ANDMA, Water Management, DoRR and WFP initiate assessment on July and found 156 affected families (52 in Chaqir, 17 in Arigh Batur, 3 in Bashirly and 84 In Shaikh villages), 26 of these families have already built their houses, 116 were living with host families and 14 of these were living in open space. The team has recommended family tents and emergency shelter to 14 families living in open space, IOM distributed family tents and emergency shelter on 18 July. Food needs has been referred to relevant agencies for their possible intervention. Wardak: As per initial reports, around 600 families were reported affected by flash flood in Day Mirdad, Chak and Said Abad districts on 15 July. A coordination meeting was held in Wardak province on 16 July and teams were assigned to assessment the affected areas. The joint assessment team comprising of ANDMA, WFP and line departments initiated assessment in on 17 July. As per the findings of the assessment in Day Mirdad, Said Abad districts only impacted agricultural land, no houses were impacted by flood. The assessment in Chak district is on-going and will be completed on 19 July, no humanitarian need is recommended by the team so far. Kabul: As per initial information, three villages (Sar Cheena, Hussain Khail and Labe Darya) were affected by flash flood on 16 July, reportedly 40 houses were damaged/ destroyed, 5 persons were killed. A joint assessment team comprised of IOM, AND- MA, OCHA, CARE Int, DRC and SCI mobilized to the affected area on 17 July. The joint assessment team found 36 families affected (14 houses severely damaged, 22 completely destroyed) in need of NFIs, tents and food items, five persons were killed as their vehicle was overturned by the flood, seven persons sustained injuries while six persons were missing (four person whose vehicle were overturned by the flood). A school was also impacted by flood. IOM distributed Family module, Blanket Module, and Emergency shelter Modules, CARE Int distributed 22 tents, Kabul ANDMA distributed 50000/Af cash to each affected families, IOM constructed gabion wall in Labe Darye village minimized the impact of flooding.
3 Parwan: As per initial information, over 100 families were reportedly affected by flash flood in Ghorband, Shaikh Ali and Surkh Parsa districts on 15 July. A PDMC meeting was held on 16 July to coordinate the assessment, a joint assessment team consisting of IOM, ANDMA, WFP, ARCS and DoRRD were mobilized to the affected areas on 16 July. The team visited Ghorband district, the flood only impacted agricultural land and one km road that was cleaned by district authority, no humanitarian assistance was recommended by the assessment team. The assessment team verified 51 families in Surkh Parsa district (Dara Qutandar, Dara Barik and Saroki villages) (1 completely destroyed and 50 severely damaged), two persons sustained injuries. The flooding also impacted agricultural land, crops, canals, culverts and roads which will be referred to FSAC and provincial government for possible intervention. IOM will distribute family module, blanket module and emergency shelter modules while ANDMA will distribute food items on 19 July. Khost: According to primary information, Due to flood and heavy rain; three houses were severally damaged and 12 other houses moderately damaged. The flood also impacted agricultural land, seasonal crops and irrigation canals in Matun, Tani and Manduzai districts of Khost province. ANDMA is verifying the reported figures and will inform humanitarian partners for joint assessment. Currently ANDMA has the capacity to respond to the reported families. IOM is following with ANDMA and will mobilize the team once the reported figures are verified. Paktia: As per initial information, due to flood and heavy rain, 10 families were reportedly affected, one person killed. The recent flood also impacted agricultural land and seasonal crops and irrigation canals and other irrigation structures in different districts of Paktya Province. A joint assessment team consisting of IOM, ANDMA and IRC initiated an assessment of the affected areas on 18 July. Ghazni: As per initial information, due to flood on 14 July, six families were reportedly affected in centre of Ghazni. A joint assessment team consisting of IOM, ANDMA and ARCS conduct assessment and found 6 families affected, IOM distribute NFIs ( Blanket, Family, Emergency shelter and solar modules) and ANDMA distributed food items.
