Child Weight Management Did you know that if we carry on as we are, nine out of 10 of today s children risk growing up with dangerous levels of fat in their bodies? This can cause serious illnesses like heart disease, cancer and type 2 diabetes in later life. We all want our children to grow up to be happy and healthy adults. But it can sometimes be hard to know how. Barking and Dagenham Child Weight Management programme will help us all, but especially children to eat well, move more and live longer. Here in Barking and Dagenham we are running free Child Weight Management Healthy Lifestyle courses and are currently looking for children and young people aged between 5 and 17 to join us on one of our programmes, which run all year. Each 10 week programme will provide useful information on healthy eating and exercise as well as tips and ideas on how to make healthier lifestyle choices. The programme includes: Practical demonstrations, games and tips about healthy foods Cooking classes A tailored exercise programme Subsidised memberships to council leisure centres for the whole family A rewards and graduation trip New sessions have been planned across the borough in different venues. Although free to attend, we will need to assess whether your child qualifies based on their age, weight and health.
