COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS AND CLASSES 3 rd Quarter July - September 2014 Health & Wellness SMH Lunch & Learn Series Fridays, July 25 / Aug. 22 / Sept. 26 Time: 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Monthly educational series focused on educating our community on current healthcare issues and treatments. A light healthy lunch and free blood pressure screenings will be available. For a list of topics, visit SlidellMemorial.org. Heartsaver CPR, AED & First Aid Friday, Aug. 1 Time: 9:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Fee: $40 Course teaches the basic techniques of adult and pediatric CPR, use of an AED, first aid for choking of an adult, child and infant. Ideal for teachers, child-care providers and others who need a certification card. To register, call (985) 280-8585. Tobacco Cessation SMH Regional Cancer Center provides help, with resources from the Smoking Cessation Trust, to smokers in our community who would like to quit. Mall Walkers Mall Walkers is a partnership between SMH and North Shore Square to help improve the community s health by encouraging people to walk inside the mall. The mall opens at 6 a.m. for early walkers and stays open until 9 p.m. for after-hours walkers. Birthing Center Tours Saturdays, July 12 / Aug. 9 / Sept. 13 Time: 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. Place: SMH Birthing Center Waiting Area, 1001 Gause Blvd. 2nd Floor Come tour the Birthing Center on the second Saturday of every month. Tours will begin every half hour and will include a tour of Labor and Delivery, Nursery, Intensive Care Nursery, and a Postpartum Room. Big Brother, Big Sister Sundays, July 20 / Sept. 28 Time: 3:30-5:30 p.m. Fee: $10 per family Children, ages 3 10, learn safe ways to interact and care for their baby, practice diapering, make a special gift for their new baby and tour the SMH Birthing Center. Parents also receive tips on preparing their children for their new family addition.

Infant & Child CPR Wednesdays, July 23 / Sept. 10 Time: 6:30-9 p.m. Fee: $20/person, $30/couple or family This class will teach you how to perform life-saving CPR techniques and relieve choking through hands-on training. This is not a CPR certification class. Beautiful Beginnings Mother & Infant Boutique Located in the SMH Birthing Center on the hospital s second floor, moms will find our enchanting mother and baby boutique to rent or breast pumps, nursing bras, breastfeeding supplies, and a wonderful, unique selection of baby gifts and clothing. Times: 10-11 a.m. Birth Pre-walking On-going support groups focused on child development and parenting children from birth to pre-walking. Me & My Tot Time Wednesdays (no classes on July 2 due to the July 4 th holiday.) Times: 9-10 a.m. Walking 24 months 10-11 a.m. 25 months 36 months 11 a.m. 12 p.m. 37 months to Pre-school On-going support groups focused on child development and parenting children from birth to pre-school. Safe Sitter : A Two Day Babysitting Course July 14 & 15 Time: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Fee: $75 includes Safe Sitter Manual and Completion Card The Safe Sitter program is a nationally recognized and medically accurate program that teaches young adolescents how to handle emergencies when caring for younger children. During this intensive two-day course, students will get hands-on practice in basic CPR, first aid and injury management. Students will also learn how to understand children of different ages, how to prevent problem behaviors, playtime activities, infant care and diapering, safety for the sitter and the business of babysitting. Girl Talk Tuesdays, July 15 / Sept. 16 Time: 6:30 8:30 p.m. Fee: $10/family For preteens and teens age 9 13, Girl Talk explains the physical, social and emotional changes your teen will undergo during puberty. Skin care and healthy eating will also be discussed. Slidell Mommy & Me This is a group for moms with pre-school aged children. It provides an opportunity for interaction with other children and also provides an opportunity for moms to build a network of support. MOMS Club of Slidell Open to all moms who are at home during the day with their children. Activities include: play, crafts, parenting discussions and socialization.
