2015-2016 Pennsylvania Spirit Award Are you proud to be a member of Job s Daughters? Do you want to strengthen and promote your Bethel? Does your Bethel have Jobie Spirit? This year, Pennsylvania s Spirit Award has made a large transformation, and so we hope that this cover letter can help guide your Bethels in completing this year s application. As always, this award is designed to provide guidelines for a wholesome Bethel term, promote your Bethel, help you see the great work that your Bethel can accomplish when working together, and reward your entire Bethel for a job well done. This year is a little different in that you are not trying to reach a certain amount of points. Instead, there is a total amount of points, and the points you receive will be calculated as a percentage of the total amount. This works similar as to how you are graded in school. While total points are broken down into every category, your goal is to see your percent overall. To be awarded the Spirit Award, your Bethel must receive a total of 80% or better overall (similar to a B grade in school). We encourage all Bethel s to fill out this Spirit Award Application during the term so that they can see what areas they do well in, as well as learn about the areas they struggle in. We would also like your Bethel to turn in your Spirit Award Application even if you do not receive 80%, so that we can see that you documented your events and activities, and that you have learned from the experience. Please remember, 70%-79% would equal a C grade, which is considered average! This does not mean that your Bethel is not doing well; it just means that your Bethel needs to work a little more to show that you have amazing Jobie Spirit! In this application, you will see new categories and point ratings than in previous years. You will also see that many times you are asked to provide descriptions or supporting documents. It is very important that you follow each step for each category, so that you can be properly awarded the points. If you need more room than the allotted space, please use the back of the paper. Also, there is a category designated for Grand Guardian Council Participation. At the time of the Spirit Award s distribution, not all of these incentives were finalized, and so please be on the look-out for them as they are announced. Lastly, there is a bonus category available for all Bethel s, and well as one for Bethel s under reorganization available, so please use them wisely to help your Bethel be awarded some extra points!

Tips to help you make the most of your Spirit Award Application! -PMYF has a Call-Em-All app that is free for all groups to use. Set up reminders to go out a couple days before s and events. -Invite inactive members to your prospect parties. It s like two events in one! -Don t have a librarian? Assign another Officer to have a report ready for the. -Most fun events can be a prospect party! Make flyers for members to hand out to family and friends, and send them to local Masonic groups. -Keep in touch with what the other Bethels are doing. Mark Grand Visit s on your calendar, hold a joint fundraiser, or get together to have a fun event. -Don t forget about the GGC s $100 promotional grant. Use it to help buy a banner for a local parade or pay for prospects and the members who brought them to get free admission to your prospect party. -Is there an event on your calendar you can invite local groups to? Have a family picnic with DeMolay, or invite Eastern Star to teach you how to make a dessert / craft. -Design matching purple T-shirts for your members to buy and wear them to volunteer and during promotional activities -A lot of schools have a beginning of the year open house. Contact your local schools to see if you can set up a promotional table with information and activities. -If your Bethel is tight on money, hold a coin march during Grand Visits and Installations to raise money for charities. -Service events can and should be meaningful to the Bethel. If your members like animals, contact the local humane society to see how you can help. If your members enjoy reading, contact a library to help with programs. Remember! Events can be counted in more than one category! For example, your Bethel can hold an initiation for 2 new members with all officers installed present / excused, in Bethel regalia, and no rituals on the floor. Invite your local Lodge and OES to visit. Hold a coin march to collect money for HIKE and serve refreshments afterwards. Last, write an article for the PA website to talk about your day. This would be a grand total of 34 points! For example. Your Bethel can donate time at the Special Olympics. You may invite DeMolay and a nearby Bethel to help. You wear your purple Bethel T-shirts and pictures of your Bethel helping are featured on their website. This would be a grand total of 27 points!

Category 9 Reorganization This category is specifically for Bethel s under reorganization, and should be used as bonus points towards receiving your Spirit Award. This category is mandatory for Bethel s under reorganization. Together, the BG and GG will create 3 goals for the specific Bethel to work on during the upcoming term. The BG and GG will describe the 3 goals, assign point value, and describe how to measure the goal. These goals can be items already listed in this document, or others that the BG and GG feel are necessary. Goals should revolve around the Daughters participation / responsibilities in the Bethel, not the Guardian Council s responsibilities. Please attach a copy of the 3 goals and how these are to be measured with a corresponding point value to this document. Maximum bonus points possible to earn in this category should be 45 points. Example: Goal 1: After observing the Bethel and with members of the Bethel Guardian Council, it is understood that this specific Bethel has not held a fun event for its members in almost 5 months. It was explained to the Bethel Guardian and Honored Queen that fun events give the members a time to relax and bond, which is an integral part of every Bethel s functioning. Also, fun events allow more opportunities for friends and family to visit and learn about Job s Daughters. Our first goal is for the HQ to talk to the Bethel members about fun events they would want to participate in (movie night, painting classes, laser tag) and hold a total of 5 fun events during the term (an average of 1 every other month). 2 points will be awarded for every fun event planned and held. Outlined in goal Outlined in goal Outlined in goal Goal #1. Goal #2. Goal #3. Total : / 0 (Should not exceed 45 points)
