FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Why are we doing this as a church? We want to help everyone learn and apply biblical principles to be set free from the bondage of debt and manage their resources in ways that strengthen their marriages, pass on a legacy to their children, and make an eternal impact for the Kingdom of God. We believe God can use this time to work through us as individuals, but also as one church body. Do you remember the last time we all focused on one thing at the same time? It s exciting to dream about our church family serving together in unity, with one focus! At the same time, we will be helping families and making an impact in our community by inviting many others to join us on this journey. Is this a building campaign? No. This is not a campaign. Our goal is not to gain money to add a building. This is about building hope into everyone s daily lives and helping them use their financial resources with biblical principles in mind. What does it look like? Beginning January 2014, we will offer the nine-week Financial Peace University classes throughout the week to accommodate thousands from our congregation and community. The class is about two hours and includes DVD teaching sessions by financial expert Dave Ramsey, followed by small group discussion time. Some sessions offer childcare for nursery through 6th grade. Class registration begins October 27, 2013. At the close of Momentum, we will host a Celebration Sunday to recognize how God has been working through the church and community. We will have many opportunities for volunteers to be involved in this effort! For children and youth: On Sunday mornings, our children and junior high students will learn biblically-based stewardship principles through a five-week lesson series. On Wednesday evenings, our senior high students will participate in Generation Change, a nine-week DVD series that relates biblically-based financial principles specifically designed for this audience. Are there costs associated with this? Yes. Each household needs one FPU kit, filled with tools and study materials as well as a lifetime membership to Financial Peace University. Your spouse/fiancé and dependent high school students can attend with you at no extra cost. We are able to offer the kits at a group discount rate of $75 through December 31. After that the regular price is $105. Generous individuals and groups throughout the
church have provided scholarship for those unable to afford the kit. We don t want anyone to miss this opportunity due to cost. Is E91 paying additional fees to the Ramsey organization for the Momentum Initiative? No, our church is not incurring additional costs from Financial Peace University or Dave Ramsey s organization. How do I register? Register at the registration table on Sunday mornings or online at http://www.east91st.org/fpu. Please include your spouse/fiancé and high school students on your registration if they will attend with you. Online registration may be made with a credit or debit card; registration at the table may be made with cash or check (and card as of November 10). Can I pay for someone else to attend FPU? Yes, by designating a contribution to E91 as Momentum Scholarship or by purchasing a gift certificate (available November 3). What is the goal for participation? This is such a unique opportunity that it would be great if 100% of our congregation would participate. We don t want anyone to miss out on the chance to learn biblical principles related to a topic that affects everyone money. Is this just for married couples? Or young adults? No, absolutely not. It is ideal if married couples can participate together so they can learn these important principles. FPU is a great opportunity for single or married, young adults or senior adults, financially inclined or financially challenged. There are great lessons for everyone. We are especially excited for our senior adults to participate so they can help share their life experiences with their children, grandchildren, and younger generations. Have any other churches done this before? Yes. More than 900 churches have participated in Momentum and have seen incredible life transformation, beyond what they could have ever anticipated. In fact, Senior Pastor Dr. Rick Grover led this initiative successfully at his previous church in Owensboro, Kentucky. The average family will eliminate $5300 in debt and save $2700 in the first 90 days. Why is it important to pause most ministry activities during Momentum? We live in a busy culture. When we look at our calendars, it s easy to feel overwhelmed by the opportunities competing for our time. Our purpose in briefly suspending most ministry activities during Momentum is twofold. First, in order to accommodate thousands each week, we will need to use much of our building space. Secondly, suspending other activities for a brief time will allow extra margin in everyone s life to help them participate in FPU. We need fewer choices on our E91 calendar to give everyone a chance to attend and begin to apply the principles in their everyday lives.
What if my ABF, Life Group or other group wants to attend FPU together? We encourage you to consider using the nine weeks during Momentum to meet new people through the FPU small group setting. ABF (Sunday morning Adult Bible Fellowship) members have the opportunity to select their group when registering. If your group is not listed, please talk to your group leader. Group leaders with questions may contact Susie Howard at susanh@east91st.org. I am hearing impaired. Are there accommodations for me? We are working with our Deaf Ministry to offer FPU for ASL (American Sign Language) users. Please contact Dee Johnson at 317-849-1261 or deej@east91st.org for information. I will be going through FPU during the week. How can I be involved in Momentum on Sunday mornings? Financial Peace University classes will be offered throughout the building from 10:30-12:30 on Sunday mornings. We will also offer a class focused on praying for the Momentum initiative as well as a variety of opportunities to serve with our Momentum Special Opps Team. E91 will continue to have three Sunday morning services and we encourage everyone to worship on Sunday mornings. I am not available the first few weeks of FPU. Do I miss out on the opportunity? We start a new FPU class mid- to late-february for those unavailable for the January launch. My schedule fluctuates so I can t commit to one day and time for nine weeks. How can I participate or make up missed classes? Register for the time and date you want to consider your primary time and attend that class as much as possible. As an FPU member, you will have access to watching up to two of the videos online and you will have a set of audio CDs. We can arrange for you to attend a secondary time and group as well. Is there a maximum capacity for the class times? We have a lot of space in our building, but that is a possibility. We encourage you to register early to take advantage of your preferred time as well as the discount offered through Dec. 31. When will I get my FPU kit? We hope to have kits available for pick up in the Narthex before and after service the first three Sundays in January. We will announce the dates in the e-bulletin and worship announcements. If you miss those pick up times, kits can be picked prior to your first class. I heard about Community Wednesday FPU. How can I learn more and sign up to serve? This is going to be an exciting opportunity to reach out to our neighborhood through a meal, FPU, Paz Financiera (Spanish version), special children s programming and Generation Change for high school students. Please visit the Momentum Information Table in the narthex or our Momentum website at: http://www.east91st.org/momentum. What else should I know about reaching out to our community? Members from Mercy Seat Church are invited to attend FPU at E91 and 91sters are welcome to attend a Tuesday evening class hosted at the Avondale Meadows YMCA in Mercy Seat s neighborhood. We are working with our Deaf Ministry to offer FPU for ASL (American Sign Language) users. Please contact Dee Johnson at 317-849-1261 or deej@east91st.org for information. On Wednesday evenings we will welcome our Hispanic community for Paz Financiera.
