Th aim of this study was to assss th fficincy, safty and tolranc of th Or-Light (Yprion Tchnology) nw - gnration intns and pulsd light systm by a comparison with Epilight (ESC-Sharplan) which, for a long tim, has bn th bnchmark in this tchnological fild. METHOD Patints Th study covrs 15 patints btwn 23 to 58 yars of ag (avrag ag 38), 13 womn and 2 mn. Phototyp distribution of th various subjcts is illustratd in th following tabl. Th tratmnt sits wr undrarm and bikini lins for th womn, shouldrs and back for th mn. Tratmnt sit hair color wnt from black (2) to light chstnut brown (1). Hair rmoval mthods usd by womn wr wax, razor or hair-rmoval cram. Qustioning stablishd that thr was no hormonal disordr or taking of mdcin that would favor hyprtrichosis. All subjcts gav thir nlightnd consnt. Equipmnt For th purposs of th study, th Or-Light systm has bn calld systm A and Epilight systm B. Epilight or Systm B is an intns and pulsd light systm with th following faturs: - Light spctrum: 590-1200 nanomtrs - thr ar 5 diffrnt filtrs 590, 615, 645, 695, 755 nm which nabl th light spctrum to b slctd in accordanc with hair color and dpth. Th darkr and dpr th hair, th highr th filtr usd. - Flunc: 20 to 65 j/cm 2 pr puls squnc Puls squnc: 2 to 5 pulss Puls duration: 2.5 to 7 ms pr puls

Th Or-Light or systm A is a nw-gnration intns and pulsd light systm. It uss innovativ SPL TM tchnology (Squar Pulsd Light ) mitting a singl, squar-shapd puls. It faturs: - Light spctrum: 610 1000nm that liminats infra-rds which might bring about a nonspcific hating of watr in th skin. - Flunc: from 8 to 20 j/cm ² pr puls - Puls duration: 15, 30 or 50 ms dpnding on hair siz. - Spot siz: 7,5 cm² Puls form in SPL tchnology.g. puls duration of 30ms with flunc of 15j/cm 2

PROTOCOL Patints For th 13 womn, th undrarm ara and opposit-sid bikini lin wr tratd with on systm, and th opposit undrarm ara and opposit-sid bikini lin with th othr systm so as to countr any biais of on sid which might hav highr hair dnsity. Th 2 mn had on sid of th back tratd by systm A and th othr by systm B. Th subjcts wr not allowd to rmov hair on tratmnt sits btwn two sssions. Sssion Th first 5 sssions wr carrid out at 5 to 6 wk intrvals, xcpt for th 2 mn whr thr was an intrval of 4 months btwn th 3rd and 4th sssions so as to avoid th sun-tanning priod. Prior to ach sssion a pictur of th tratmnt was takn sits and, for th womn, a pictur 3 months aftr th 5th sssion. Equipmnt For systm A, dpnding on hair siz, puls duration was of 15, 30 or 50 ms and flunc varid btwn 8 and 20 j/cm 2. For systm B, dpnding on hair siz and color, 4 typs of filtrs wr usd (615, 645, 695, 755 with a majority of 695), th numbr of pulss was from 2 to 5, puls duration varid btwn 2.6 to 4 ms and intrvals btwn pulss from 30 to 50 ms. Valuation Aftr ach sssion a qustionnair was filld in assssing: -how th customr flt during and just aftr th sssion, -immdiat scondary ffcts. A fil was handd out so as to not any dlayd scondary ffcts. At th nd of th tratmnt, th 15 customrs (including th customr xcludd aftr th 4th sssion xcpt for assssmnt of fficincy) wr askd for ach systm: To assss pain and fficincy%discomfort, via a scal from 1 to 10 (1 no pain, 10 vry painful) To assss tratmnt fficincy on a scal of 10 by 10% stps. RESULTS 1/ Qustionnair aftr ach sssion Th rsults ar givn for th 15 customrs ovr th first 4 sssions and for 14 ovr th 5th sssion, sinc on customr was xcludd from th protocol as sh was 3-wks prgnant for th 5th sssion in qustion. Analysis of snsations xprincd during and aftr ach sssion During th 75 sssions, customrs xprincd uncomfortabl snsations of th "burning" or "painful" typ in 9.33% with systm A as against 52% of cass with systm B. Ths painful snsations compltly disappard at th nd of th sssion for systm A whras 6.67% prsistd with systm B. Prsistanc of th snsation aftr th sssion For systm B in 12% of cass, hat, prickling snsation, burning or pain took a minimum of 5 hours to disappar. CONCLUSION In this study of 15 customrs, th Or-Light systm, an intns and pulsd light SPL-tchnology systm, showd clar supriority for tolranc (littl discomfort) and safty of opration ovr Epilight which has for a long tim bn th bnchmark for pulsd light systms. Dspit using apparntly low nrgy (16.5 j/cm 2 ), th Or-Light shows at th nd of th fiv sssions th sam lvl of fficincy than th Epilight and vn bttr in som cass. With a singl squar flash, SPL Tchnology nabls constant ris in tmpratur at targt lvl and constant tmpratur hold throughout th puls duration. Flunc rquird for optimum fficincy may consquntly b rducd, hnc its good tolranc rating. For all ths rasons, th Or-Light provs to b an xcllnt systm, usr-frindly for th practitionr and asy on th customr.
