MAY NEWSLETTER 2016 In This Issue Tooting Neighbourhood Centre, 28 Glenburnie Road, Tooting, SW17 7PJ Tel: 0208 767 1619 - Mobile 07939 808 411 Tooting Bec Tube Station @ http://www.together-uk.org/yourway wandsworth-yourway@together-uk.org 07874 235 865

It is with huge sadness that we are saying farewell to our lovely Anna. She is leaving us to go to University in Los Angeles, USA (not in the least bit jealous of all with all that lovely weather you will be living in!!!). I am sure that everyone will join all the staff in wishing Anna all the best for her studies and hoping that she will return to us one day. All of us will greatly miss your sense of humour and dedication to our service. You will be greatly missed. Anna s leaving party is at Open Office on the 25th May and the Asparagus in Battersea on the 27th May. Come along and join us to bid farewell.

Outside Nero s Coffee Shop, Front Entrance of the station. Any bus that goes to Clapham Junction Station. We have decided to do another river cruise, which was a great success last year. We will be meeting at Clapham Junction Station at 12.00 (outside Nero s Café at the front of the station). We will take the train to Waterloo station and then cross the road to the London Eye Pier. From there we will be getting the boat up to Greenwich. The costs for those who have a Freedom Pass will be 3.60 per journey ( 7.20 return). At Greenwich there is the Emirates Airline cable car, if you want to take a flight over the Thames, and the world famous O2 Arena. Prices for the cable car are not known and will be found out once we get there. If you fancy a day on the river with good company the come and join us. Bring a packed lunch as places to eat will be quite expensive. Looking forward to seeing people there on the day. Hopefully the weather will be good as well. This will also be Anna s last trip with Wandsworth Your Way so come and join us.

Tooting Neighbourhood Centre, 28 Glenburnie Road, Tooting, SW17 7PJ Tel: 0208 767 1619 - Mobile 07939 808 411 Tooting Bec Tube Station We are pleased to report on the increased popularity of Fun Mondays @ The Hope Project in Tooting. We have felt for sometime that Mondays could feel a little flat after the weekend and so to combat the new week blues we bring you Fun Mondays. These sessions will occur once a month on the last Monday of the month. After speaking with the Hope Project it was decided to not only increase the range of things that are available to The Hope Project users but also to Your Way users. Listed below are some of the things that you can expect at the Fun Mondays @ The Hope Project. Computer Workshop. The Hope Project has just had funding for 7 new laptops so we can now offer help to those that are new to computing or wish to increase their knowledge and understanding. Whether it is setting up emails or a Facebook account or just browsing the internet the computers are there to be used. Knitting and sewing - a small knitting and sewing group will be established for any interested people. Creative writing - One of peer supporters who is very interested in creative writing is willing to help and support any others that have an interest in doing this. Model Painting - Another volunteer does model painting and has a vast collection of painted models. He is willing to show people the techniques of this very intricate form of art. Art Instruction - There will be the opportunity to take part in art activities with our own Craft Event volunteer. You can be assured of the best instruction and support from a top notch artist. There will also be the regular Hope Project activities available too which include Pool Table Tennis Dominoes Scrabble Chess Draughts There is a meal available for a minimal cost of 3.00 (tea & coffee & squash @ 20p each). Meals must be pre-ordered so please let staff or peer supporters know the Wednesday before (at Open Office) of your wish to attend so that we can let the Hope Project know how many people will be coming. If there is something that you can think of as an activity then please let one of the staff or peer supporters know and we will see if it is possible to add it. We look forward to seeing you there. Please refer to page 10 for guidelines on events.

The Railway, top of Putney High Street. 37,337 or any bus that stops at Putney Bridge This is your opportunity to help shape the way in which Your Way Wandsworth is going by joining us for our newsletter meetings where we set the events and specials for the next month. If you are interested in taking part in any activity or if you have any further questions please feel free to contact Mark (07595 410 451) or any of our Peer Supporters. You can also speak to your Your Way worker. Please feel free to propose any new ideas for any activities or events that you would like to take part in either by using the comments box at the Open Office. As part of our continuing drive to improve the service that is on offer we extend the chance for all people to have a say in what we will do in the future. To help us decide some more of the comment and suggestion sheets will be made available at Open Office for people to fill in about what they would like to do, places they would like to go and see or any other events that can be included. Please bear in mind though that we cannot promise to do everything but we will try our very best. We are looking at recruiting more Peer Supporters and volunteers to work alongside Your Way staff and the other Peer Supporters that we currently have. We are looking for volunteers to assist us in running the group events, welcoming people at our Open Office and possible one to one working with other clients. Even if you only have a few hours to spare each week or you have a lot of spare time then we would like to get you involved. If this is something that would interest you then please speak to Mark Fisher at Open Office or you can text him on 07595 410 451 for further information. We will be offering Peer Support training to interested people occasionally (based on a weekly 6 session course). Please be assured that any assistance you can give would be greatly appreciated by all concerned. In our experience of people actually doing Peer Support we have found that not only the does the service users benefit from the Peer Support that they receive but the people that give Peer Support also benefit by helping other that are in or have been in a similar situation to themselves. There are many opportunities to help others and this can be tailored to suit your personal situation. So please let us know if you are able to give a little of your time to help others as it is a very rewarding thing to do for others. If you are still unsure then please feel free to speak to Mark or any of our current Peer Supporters to find out more about becoming a Peer Supporter yourself.

AND A FINAL MESSAGE FROM ANNA And from all of us here at Wandsworth Your Way and all of the people that you have helped over the years a heartfelt Bon Voyage, Good Luck and we will miss you. You will not be forgotten and we will look forward to seeing you again in the not too distant future.
