WellStar West Georgia Medical Center 2016 Community Resource Directory Members of the WellStar West Georgia Medical Center team created this Community Resource Directory in response to a need identified through the health system s 2013 Community Health Needs Assessment. With more than 75 categories and 650 resources identified, this directory is intended to be a comprehensive and inclusive list of social-, child-, behavior- and health-related services offered throughout Troup County and beyond. It is possible that some services or organizations were inadvertently overlooked during the development of this directory. Circles of Troup County Office Parks and Rec Center 1220 Lafayette Parkway (706) 883-1687 http://circlesoftroup.org/ Circles of Troup County is a nationally recognized program that is a high-impact approach to addressing poverty. They combine best practices in several disciplines including community organizing, case management, SMART goal setting, financial literacy, peer-to-peer counseling and learning, and child/youth development. Participants in Circles must apply and go through an interview process, and once accepted attend a 12-week class that includes a wide variety of concepts including goal setting, financial literacy, "hidden rules" of economic class and more. When they have completed the graduates are matched with two to four middle class volunteers who commit to working with them to reach their goals. Participants are the "Circle Leaders" of this small group and volunteers are "allies." The group meets weekly Thursdays, where other volunteers provide free meals an free childcare. The weekly classes include education meetings among the 'matched circles' and Circles planning sessions. Meetings on the first, second and fourth Thursdays of every month are open to visitors who are considering participating or volunteering with Circles or who want to know more about what they do. The Interfaith Food Closet provides temporary and emergency food assistance to those who have proof of need. The LaGrange Empty Stocking Fund provides Christmas gifts for needy children from birth to 10 years of age. At Christmas the Organization provides new clothing, new toys and wholesome food boxes to low-income families who otherwise would not afford these items for Christmas.
