PURPOSE is rapidly evolving to new evidence on medical, interventional and surgical therapies. The conference would assist primary care providers and cardiologists alike in staying current as to advances in the cardiovascular field. This educational program will present the latest techniques, technologies, devices and therapies available for the diagnosis and treatment of atrial fibrillation arrest, heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, ischemic cardiac disease and valvular disease. The evidence-based information provided will benefit nursing, advanced practice and physician members of medical teams. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES Cardiac MRI: The Present and Future Discuss role of cardiac MRI in various cardiomyopathies Building a Successful Lead Extraction Program Discuss the indications for lead extraction Discuss risk stratification for lead extraction procedures Discuss adverse events that occur during lead extraction Discuss barriers, necessary components for building a successful lead extraction program New Perspectives on Surgery for Ischemic Mitral Regurgitation Discuss recent history of recommendations for the management of ischemic mitral valve regurgitation including guidelines for mitral valve repair vs replacement Discuss recent evidence based trials showing the outcomes of mitral valve repair vs replacement in ischemic mitral regurgitation Discuss how recent evidence is moving recommendations back to mitral valve replacement for ischemic mitral regurgitation Describe surgical techniques for sparing subvalvular apparatus to improve surgical outcomes in mitral valve replacement for ischemic mitral regurgitation Identify patients who may still benefit from mitral valve repair in ischemic mitral regurgitation based on preoperative echocardiographic findings Cardiovascular Disease in Women and Minority Populations Differentiate how women and men present with cardiovascular disease (CVD) Analyze how risk factors for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) differ n women and men Distinguish differences in care patterns and patient outcomes across various populations with CVD (i.e., women, older adults, ethnic/racial groups). The Many Faces of the Patient with Advanced Heart Failure Define advance heart failure Identify the clinical clues to the diagnosis of advance heart failure Analyze the different treatment options for patients with advance heart failure. The Role of Genetics in Cardiovascular Medicine Explain the inherited forms of arrhythmias and cardiomyopathies that lead to heart failure and sudden death Describe the clinical diagnostic workup and treatment for subjects with these conditions and their family members. Discuss the role of genetic testing for the inherited forms of heart disease Stroke in Women with Atrial Fibrillation Describe stroke risk in women with atrial fibrillation Discuss possible reasons for this gender difference in stroke risk in patients with atrial fibrillation Analyze preventive efforts that may mitigate stroke risk in women with atrial fibrillation CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A.
