Treasurer and Sponsorship (x 2) 1. Name : Vanisha Joshi Hello my name is Vanisha Joshi and I am a first year Maths student applying for the position of co-treasurer. Over the last two terms I have attended a number of the ASoc events including all the clubnights and the ball and I have loved being a part of the society. Through the events I have met many people, some of which have now become some of my closest friends. It is by far one of the biggest cultural societies at Warwick and it is the one I have felt most welcomed by. Why me? As a maths student and Credit Suisse scholar I have excellent numerical and financial skills. Experience working in teams Worked at Deutsche Bank last summer in a team of 30 and worked at my local Kumon centre in a team of 15 for 4 years. Leadership skills lead a group of 20 prefects in sixth form, Deputy Head Girl and member of my schools leadership team. Experience organising and financing numerous fundraisers and large events including prom and cabaret. Handled sizeable amounts of money, worked with tight budgets and liaised with sponsors to secure extra funding. Excellent organisational and listening skills. Being part of ASoc has been one of the highlights of my first year here at Warwick, which is why it would be an honour to be part of the exec as co-treasurer of the Warwick Asian Society! Thank you for considering my application.

2. Name : Anish Trivedi Anish Trivedi Treasurer and Sponsorship The Asian Society has become a big part of University for me, and this is reflected in my active involvement in many ASOC Events. From the many socials that have been organized, to the Ball just last week, and representing our society in One World Week, my enthusiasm for ASOC has remained strong throughout the year. Having made strong relations with many members of the society, I have a good understanding of the society and want to build on the success that the current exec has achieved in the past year. In my opinion, fundamental skills that a treasurer should have are the abilities to work with numbers, finance and maintaining good relations with existing and potential sponsors. If elected as treasurer, I would aim to increase the sponsorship for our society, by updating the current sponsorship proposal given to firms and target a Ball sponsor that would allow for bigger socials to take place. Furthermore, I will hope to increase the funding for the charity project set up this year so we are able to grow due to the Giving to Warwick Opportunity Fund. The budget will also be reassessed so that the money we gain can go towards British Asian cultural performance events or even career events. I believe that good communication skills are necessary for this role, because I would need to liaise with the whole exec when working around financial matters or with any event planning. Studying Accounting and Finance, my course naturally gives me an analytical mind, working with figures regularly and so I believe the role of treasurer would be an ideal one for me. Having gained work experience in an accounting firm, I have had previous experience working with accounts and cash flows and so this would assist me in the demands of the role. ASOC has given a lot to me over this past year and so I feel it is time for me to give something back by applying for treasurer. I believe I have the skills, the passion, and determination to succeed in the role and continue the success that the current exec has achieved this year. With ASOC membership increasing by 44% in the past year, it is an exciting time for the society and so it would be a great opportunity for me to be elected as the treasurer next year.

3. Name : Alysha Kumar I would like to be an ASOC exec because, ASOC has been great this year but I want to make it even better by organising more events such as charity events and socials. I would like to apply to be the ASOC treasurer and sponsorship representative because; I have previous experience in contacting organisations and firms to participate in event. Over the two year course of my A- Levels, I independently established The Business Club in my school, for which I invited external guest speakers from different career backgrounds to provide students with an insight into their role and career. For example, I invited an accountant from a local firm and a presentation on how to establish and manage your own business was also delivered by a guest speaker. This shows that I am professional and have the organisational and time management skills needed to fulfil this role. Alongside this, I have conducted several presentations in front of large audiences, showing that I am a confident speaker with good communication and presentation skills. Moreover, I have organised many charity events so I am good at budgeting and controlling money, as well selling, so I think I would be able to help ASOC gain more sponsorship next year so that we can host more events such as career events and socials. Finally, I think that it will be a great experience for me to control the budget and finances of ASOC given its current size. With the right exec team, ASOC can gain more support and sponsorship allowing us to host an even bigger ball next year so even more members can come and have as much fun as we did. Thank you for reading

4. Name : Parmela Chohan Parmela Chohan I am a first year Econ student running for the position of ASOC Treasurer and Sponsorship As an active and regular member of ASOC and having enjoyed many of the fantastic events that have been put on throughout the year, I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to continue the success of the society through to the next academic year and make Warwick ASOC an even bigger society with more impressive events! What I hope to bring to ASOC: One year of experience as Treasurer of Jack Martin Halls Society Experience of successfully pitching for funding for a charity group for which I was the fundraising officer Able to ensure sufficient funding Real experience of managing money: being Financial Director of an enterprise business taught me how to budget effectively and importance of communication and forward planning Enthusiastic and committed individual High level of responsibility and trusted to deal with financial issues What I aim to do: Maintain relationships with sponsors to ensure we have sufficient sources of funding Budget effectively so we can put on bigger events and a more wide range of events throughout the year Continue the success of the society and help expand the membership For more info, please come to the elections this Wednesday to hear my speech, and show your support for the society by voting!

5. Name : Deven Jobanputra Deven Jobanputra for Treasurer and Sponsorship I am a first year Economist and am running to be your Treasurer for the year 2014/15. Why me? A trustworthy individual with a real passion for the Asian Society, and I am dedicated to making the Asian Society bigger and better. Meticulous, honest and responsible, I believe I am well equipped to deal with the financial aspects of the role. I have experience with pitching to potential sponsors and am confident, communicative and approachable, so as to ensure sufficient funding for the society and all potential events. I have plenty of experience dealing with money and sponsors: 1. Being Head of Marketing for my School Young Enterprise Team, I was instrumental in getting 4 Celebrity Chefs to sponsor a dish for our product. 2. I was key in dealing with Publishers, Printers and Photographers to get our product out there and also conducted initial meetings with WHSmith. 3. I was part of the team that controlled the company finances, particularly with getting sponsors from local Restaurants, and Cash & Carries and making sure we ended up with a profit. I was involved in raising money and managing finances from Charity events at School and so I believe I am reliable and have strong management skills. A few of my ideas Increase and diversify the number of sponsors we have so that we can gain from a wider source of funds. With this added amount of money, I would encourage more events, working with the Events Coordinator so that we are increasing the awareness of the society. Have more relaxed socials in conjunction with Bar Crawls so that people can actually get to meet each other. Finally, consider creating a large Asian Cultural Show possibly with other societies, BUT in 2 years time, so that the society as a whole is prepared for the amount of work needed to be put in. Thank you for taking the time to read my manifesto and I would be extremely grateful for your support this Wednesday.
