President s Update Welcome to the first newsletter of 2016 which brings you lots of information about the work of APTA and the field of Play Therapy. It has been a great start to 2016, with many new members and 2 new committee members. Our AGM is fast approaching where we will be reflecting on 2015/16 however I would like to give you a quick president update. The APTA committee has worked extremely hard behind the scenes and have achieved some wonderful things; Melbourne networking group has already held several meetings working closely with our members to formulate this year s agenda. The committee has been developing and reviewing our policy and procedures, carrying out administrative amendments to ensure all of our membership documents are streamline, hopefully making life easier for all of our members. Our signature/marketing logo and usage guideline has now been approved for use by provisional and clinical members and it s with great excitement that dates are currently being finalised for our next conference event. Look forwards to speaking with you all at our AGM. Warmest Wishes Donna Berry APTA President 2

Melbourne Networking Group Update The Victorian Play Therapy Practice Group was established by APTA in 2015 to provide information, support and professional development opportunities to practitioners using, or interested in, play therapy as a modality in their work with children. The Australian Play Therapists Association recognises the critical value of bringing professionals in the field together to support, learn and share resources with each other, and is very excited by the participation and interest shown in the Victorian Practice group so far! The APTA s Victorian Practice Group held its second meeting on Wednesday February 17 th in Burwood, with eleven members and non-members attending. Clinical Psychologist Angela North provided an informative and heart felt presentation on her experiences using Filial Therapy with children and families. Angela s presentation was respectful, sincere and extremely professional, sharing useful information and resources for those in attendance. It was wonderful to have the high level of attendance and positive participation on this occasion, and we look forward to building on this as we grow and develop this group. The details of our next meeting are: Date: Location: Time: RSVP: COST: Wednesday May 25 th Downtowner on Lygon 6-7:30pm info@apta.asn.au APTA members free ($5 non-members) 3

It is a costeffective alternative to play therapy and can result in profound and positive change for parent and child alike. If you would like to feel more confident in your work with parents, and offer a more engaged, self-directed play-therapy experience with their children, this workshop will equip you with the essential tools to get started.
