1 of 6 9/15/2017, 11:32 AM Connect With Us Join Our Mailing List Forward to a Friend St. Mary Magdalene E-News September 15, 2017 A Note From Father Donald Staib Thank you for the wonderful generosity last weekend in the 2nd collection for those harmed by Hurricane Harvey in Texas. We received $13,787, one of the largest 2nd collections in memory. These funds will be distributed through Catholic Charities in the Dioceses that have been impacted. In addition our StMM school community has collected boxes of supplies and over $6,500 for StMM school in Humble, Texas. Visit Our Church Website Also - commendation to all who organized and volunteered in our Ministry Fair last weekend. It was our first use of the lobby and I thought it served our parish well. This coming week all priests of the Diocese will be on Retreat. There will be morning Mass only on Monday. As always we remember members of our parish at Mass during the Retreat days. This will be the first opportunity for me to be with our new Bishop, but he will also have to meet over 100 other priests during the week. That would exhaust my memory. Next week we will have a 2 nd collection for those who have lost everything in the devastation of Hurricane Irma. On Sundays when our Youth meet there is a 6 pm Mass. Youth begin the new year next Sunday. All are welcome to attend. Consult the bulletin to see the Sundays when the Youth meet. Father Donald Staib donfs22@aol.com St. Mary Magdalene E-News Now That The New Church Is Completed! We have the obligation to make large monthly payments for 15 years - and we are challenged to respond to new parish endeavors brought about by our new building. Here is a snapshot of the giving patterns of our parish during the past 12 months for Offertory

2 of 6 9/15/2017, 11:32 AM [payments on pledges to the new church is a separate account]. The amounts below are the sum of all offertory received in the past 12 months. 12 over $10,000 25 over $6,000 35 over $4,000 85 over $2,000 345 over $1,000 300 over $500 382 over $100 155 over $3.00 We are so grateful to those who have helped us. We are blessed with generous people who provide for our ministries and buildings. As careful administrators of people's gifts, each year we review our membership rolls. One item that is easy to analyze are the gifts to the parish. We could not find a record of any gift in the past 12 months for about 325 names on our current list. We will write to these folks soon - snail mail - asking their intentions to continue membership in the parish. If we do not hear back in a reasonable time, we will remove them from our active list. 3 of 6 9/15/2017, 11:32 AM CPO Truck waiting for Food & Preschool Book Donations this weekend! Reflection From the Introduction to the Book of Sirach: The author, a sage who lived in Jerusalem, was thoroughly imbued with love for the law, the priesthood, the temple, and divine worship. As a wise and experienced observer of life he addressed himself to his contemporaries with the motive of helping them to maintain religious faith and integrity through study of the holy books, and through tradition.

t. Mary Magdalene E-News 4 of 6 9/15/2017, 11:32 AM Another sage I have learned about -- Wu Yubi, a Chinese scholar and teacher of the 1400's, wrote: My goal is to progress to the point of mastering myself by devoting myself to the cultivation of reverence and empathy. The reason I know about Wu is that a high school student I taught long ago translated his diaries and memoirs. I am in awe of that kind of talent. And impressed by sages of any age, even though their relentless searches will always remain searches. Feed - A- Family Food Drive! Feed-A-Family Food Drive is this weekend. Please bring your food donations, monetary donations and preschool books to the CPO truck in the parking lot by 12noon on Sunday, Sept. 17th. Please help CPO serve the less fortunate in our community. Questions, contact Kelly Rappl atkrappl@nc.rr.com or Kathy Barnack at kbarnack@nc.rr.com. CPO H20 For Hunger Challenge Do you want to help feed hungry families in our community? $25 feeds a family for a week and CPO serves an average of 8,500 people a month! CPO Friends will match funds up to $35,000! Help us reach this goal! 25% of NC children under 5 go to bed hungry. You can help by joining Catholic Parish Outreach's H 2 O for Hunger Challenge this September as part of National Hunger Action Month. For one week - September 18-24-drink tap water instead of your preferred beverage.. At the end of the week, put your savings together and send it to CPO so we can buy food for the hungry. Traveling St. John Vianney Project Our "Traveling St John Vianney" project is looking for additional volunteers this year. As a reminder to pray for our priests and an increase in vocations, families take turns bring the statue home. Depending on participation each family will have the statue for 2-4 weeks during the year. Please email Chris and Megan Brinkley if you are interested m.brinkley@hotmail.com
