Conference Purpose and Audience The Rebecca Center for Music Therapy at Molloy College will be hosting a one-day conference, Developmental Interventions for Autism: Evidence-Based Research (Special Focus on Music Therapy) on Friday, May 1, 2015; 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. This unique research conference will be co-sponsored by the Interdisciplinary Council for Development & Learning (www.icdl.com). The purpose of the conference is to highlight developmental interventions and their place in the world of evidence-based research. This 1-day conference will feature a series of research presentations from the professions of music therapy, speech & language pathology, neurology, education, and psychology. The focus of each presentation will center on evidenced-based research pertaining to developmental relationship-based interventions. Agenda The keynote speaker will be: Devin Casenhiser, Ph.D., Assistant 10:40-11:10 a.m. Developmental Interventions for ASD: Evidenced-based? (Diana Abourafeh, John Carpente, Ph.D., Jon Fessenden, Stella Manne, Ph.D., & Naoko Mizutani, MT-BC, CCLS) Professor, Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology, University of Tennessee. Dr. Casenhiser s research explores functional (i.e., communicative) and cognitive factors that affect language learning in neurotypical and autistic populations. He has published research investigating the effects of homonymy on lexical acquisition, how the distribution of lexical input affects children s ability to learn grammatical constructions, and together with colleagues in Canada, Dr. Casenhiser has developed and tested a social-interaction based intervention designed to improve the social-communication abilities of children diagnose with autism spectrum disorders.
