Happy Catholic Education Week to all students and families! As we commence celebrations as a system of Catholic Schools, I take this opportunity to thank you individually and collectively for all your contributions you share so abundantly and willingly to uphold our core values and to support the children in our care. I believe deeply that we have a very committed, contemporary and kind staff team who take pride in the work we do. Most sincerely, I say thank you and HAPPY CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK! from the principal Catholic Education Week 2017 Port Augusta 5700

Care for Earth SWITCH OFF During Catholic Education Week Catholic Schools across the vast Port Pirie Diocese will combine to raise awareness about the effects of greenhouse gas emissions and to demonstrate how schools, homes and businesses can reduce their impact on the environment. We do this by switching off ; by deliberately choosing to turn off lights, heaters, air conditioners, computers and other electrical devices as an act of solidarity with Earth. As Hope filled people, inspired by Jesus, we are aware that a change in our thinking is needed to motivate a change in our habits to ensure the health of our home, planet Earth.

Family Fun Night 2017

Family Fun Night 2017.continued As part of Catholic Education Week, Caritas College held a Family Fun Night to celebrate the great work the R-12 students do. Students alongside their families participated in a range of fun, interactive activities such as bookmark making, shrink art, Hungry Caterpillar Fruit Kebabs, Tech Studies stall and many more which were facilitated by students across all learning areas. The night was a real sense of community, strengthening partnerships between staff, students and families and reinforced our ethos and celebrated our belonging, achieving and serving. The theme of the night Once upon a time.. We were delighted with the overwhelming demonstration of support from the Caritas College Community with so many families able to attend and enjoy the evening. We are very grateful for the sense of pride and achievement that an occasion such as this endears. A sincere thank you also to everyone who was able to support the St Vincent de Paul toiletry drive and the fundraising for the community of Kiribati. Many people commented on the very happy atmosphere that was evident throughout the evening. Year 8 Camp During week 2, Year 8 students braved the nights to attend a camp at Melrose. The theme of the camp this year was to push ourselves outside of our physical, mental and social comfort zones. There was fantastic buy-in from both staff and students as they undertook various team-building activities that fostered a sense of fun, genuine conversation and personal challenge. Thursday s 3km adventure into Melrose and 12.5km hike up and down Mt Remarkable was a perfect opportunity for students to continue to challenge themselves which they all did so remarkably. Student unable to climb the mountain created an amazing textile quilt illustrating the 24 Character Strengths from Positive Education principles. The new sense of unity and camaraderie on Friday was testament to students willingness to open themselves up to new challenges, friendships and conversations; skills they can carry with them throughout their future school journey. Thank you to Miss Leah Carling, Mr Cameron Hall and Mr Jack Muirhead for their care, support and supervision of students throughout the camp.

Thank you to all the Parents and Friends Committee for planning and managing the stall and to those who donated gifts, your generosity is very much appreciated. WHS - Volunteers Induction & Training It is a requirement that all volunteers complete the Responding to Abuse and Neglect-Education and Care induction session for Volunteers to be able to assist in any capacity. This training outlines child protection responsibilities and provides guidelines on protective practices. For all new volunteers and those with current clearance who were not able to attend the face to face sessions that have been held at Caritas College, there is now an online version of the training available https:/rantrainingvolunteers.e3learning.com.au/ For all the details and to collect the handbook to be used in conjunction with the online session, please contact Denise Ackland. Thank you to all of our volunteers for supporting us in this process. The Family Calendar is available at http://www.cc.catholic.edu.au/ news-events/family-calendar-1 for updated information.
