Symposium on KIDNEY DISEASE Hatch Auditorium (2nd Floor) 1468 Madison Avenue Course Directors John C. He, MD, PhD Peter Kotanko, MD, FASN Jointly Provided by:, and Online Registration www.icahn.mssm.edu/cme/courses
COURSE DESCRIPTION The Symposium on Chronic Kidney Disease aims to provide a both clinically applicable and scientifically founded educational experience to the audience. The content ranges from immediate clinical topics to visionary and forward looking novel concepts. Examples for the former are aspects of nutritional management of patients with kidney disease; an example for the latter is a keynote lecture about bio-engineered kidneys. An essential concept of the meeting is that the talks are given by clinician-scientists active in the respective fields. OBJECTIVES After completion of this course, you will be able to: Recognize the impact of nutritional management, in particular with respect to phosphorus and exemplify the survival advantage when under control Explain to patients the relevance of adherence to treatments and nutritional needs for their well-being. Summarize the importance of vascular access choices and their impact on patient s clinical outcomes. Integrate strategies in identifying the most adequate vascular access for individual patients. Differentiate the dynamics between intradialytic weight gain and fluid removal in relation to chronic volume overload. Describe the most current innovations in the field of bio-engineered kidney research. TARGET AUDIENCE This activity has been designed for nephrologists, internists, PCPs, nephrology nurses and other allied health care clinicians exposed to patients with kidney disorders.
