About CEIS Community Enterprise in Scotland (CEIS) was established in 1984, the vision of Community Enterprise in Scotland (CEIS) is to make Scotland a better place to live and work with a more inclusive economy. To realise this CEIS engages with businesses and communities to build capacity and to address inequality. Our social enterprise support is internationally recognised and this work is complemented by business finance, employability services, event management, social research and asset based community development. Our clients include individuals seeking employment, businesses requiring support and public bodies interested in social change. Learn more at www.ceis.org.uk. As the founder of Social Enterprise World Forum, we have worked closely with every event host to build a programme that is insightful but also has a lasting legacy for the local host, community and country. We have seen relationships and partnerships bloom and the direct impact the event can have on businesses. We are delighted to once again organise the 2018 Social Enterprise World Forum (SEWF) in Edinburgh, ten years on from hosting the inaugural event in 2008. Social enterprise is our tool to build healthy communities and vibrant local economies. It plays an important role in combatting inequality - they reduce poverty, build food systems, celebrate diversity, promote Indigenous culture, meet health needs, create employment opportunities for those with disadvantages, deliver community owned energy and address environmental issues and social exclusion. They play a vital role in the economy and communities and we are keen to demonstrate this through the event. We use our global forum to provide the tools to enhance knowledge and skills, build a supportive public policy environment, and create a generous network of collaboration and sharing. We examine transferrable strategies, systems and models that have worked in the past, while also turning toward the future to explore emerging market opportunities in the long-term. SEWF 2018 is the global platform to share stories, learn from others and celebrate progress together with colleagues from value driven businesses from around the world. After a decade that has seen the social enterprise movement experience exponential growth, our forum in Edinburgh will look at progress over the last ten years while establishing a vision for the future. For our exhibitors this is a unique opportunity to showcase products and services and make connections that will serve us and the sector well in the future. We look forward to working with you to realise our vision.
Introduction Social Enterprise World Forum was established in 2007 by national social enterprise support agencies with the first event held in Edinburgh in 2008. The success of the event in galvanising the global movement of social enterprise, creating a platform for learning, sharing of good practice, ideas and creating partnerships, led to other countries seeking to host the event. This has led to SEWF becoming the premier global event for the social enterprise movement. 2007 - THE SOCIAL ENTERPRISE WORLD FORUM (SEWF) WAS BORN 2008 - THE FIRST SEWF EVENT HELD IN EDINBURGH 2013 - CALGARY 2018 - THE TENTH SEWF RETURNS TO EDINBURGH 2010 - SAN FRANCISCO 2015 - MILAN 2014 - SEOUL 2016 - HONG KONG 2012 - RIO DE JANIERO 2011 - JOHANNESBURG 2009 - MELBOURNE 2017 - CHRISTCHURCH 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 415 522 712 957 851 1,200 1,097 762 1,020 1,616 29 17 23 24 33 30 27 45 30 28 Each SEWF event offers a unique opportunity for social enterprises to showcase their products and services to a large international audience committed to supporting the social enterprise movement, including social enterprise practitioners, academics, investors, policy-makers, intermediaries, corporates and supporters. The exhibition is an essential component of the forum showcasing the work of social enterprises and profiling the support, products and services available from social enterprises and support agencies.
SEWF 2018 Exhibition SEWF 2018 will be held in the Edinburgh International Convention Centre (EICC), a purpose built conference and exhibition centre, which will host 1,200 : 400 from Scotland, 400 from the UK and Ireland and 400 internationally. The conference will also host an exhibition with circa 50 stalls, including sponsors throughout the event on 12-14th September. While the exhibition is open to all, prominence will be given to social enterprises selling products. The stand was really great exposure for us, especially as it gave us a specific spot for attendees and potential customers to come and speak to us directly and look at our products. In terms of sales it was definitely beneficial and we made more money than it cost us to staff the pop-up, which is always great. Samantha Jones, Yellow Little Bird
