7 T. gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite that establishes a latent state of infection for the life of the parasite T. gondii triggers a vigorous humoral and cellular immune response IgG becomes detectable 1-2 weeks after acquisition of infection and peaks between 3 and 6 months. A gradual decline occurs over months to years and lower titers persist for life IgM appears within the first week or 2 of infection. 8 Humoral Immune responses are used for serological diagnosis of acute vs. chronic infection IgA appears within the first week or 2 of infection. In some patients IgA antibodies may persist for or reappear months after primary infection IgE appears within the first week or 2 of infection. Duration of detectable IgE antibodies in adults with acute infection is briefer than that of IgM and IgA antibodies. Among patients with detectable titers, IgE antibodies usually dissapear 2 to 3 months after primary infection AC/HS compares the titers obtained with formalin-fixed tachyzoites (HS antigen) with those obtained with acetonefixed tachyzoites (AC antigen). 10 TL cannot be distinguished from other causes of LN including infectious, immunological, neoplastic, iatrogenic, and other miscellaneous causes it can be a source of high anxiety to patients and their health care providers of particular concern are those patients whose LN has been present for more than 6 weeks and less than 12 months in those settings, malignancy and infection need to be ruled out first, since they are among the most common etiologies Montoya JG, Remington JS.
