2 Health Hazards Health Effects Swallowed No more than slightly toxic based on toxicity studies. No significant adverse health effects are expected to develop if only small amounts (less than a mouthful) are swallowed. Skin Corrosive to skin. Propachlor, the active ingredient in this product, causes pain, redness, and a burning sensation, and may cause allergic skin reaction in susceptible individuals based on reports by workers. Eye Will cause irritation, pain, redness and tearing based on toxicity studies. Inhaled Inhalation of spray mist may be irritating to respiratory tract. First Aid Swallowed Do not induce vomiting. Give large quantities of water. DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING OR GIVE ANYTHING BY MOUTH TO AN UNCONSCIOUS PERSON. Get medical attention. Skin Immediately flush with plenty of water while removing contaminated clothing. As soon as soap is available, wash skin thoroughly with soap and water. Wash clothing before reuse. Sensitized persons should avoid further contact and reuse of contaminated clothing. Get medical attention. Eye Hold eyes open, flood with water for at least 15 minutes and see a doctor. Inhaled Remove victim to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration, preferably mouth-to-mouth. Get medical attention. Advice to Doctor None available. However, OSHA and ACGIH have established limits for nuisance dusts which are the least stringent exposure limits applicable to dusts. 3 Precautions For Use (Continued) Engineering Controls Provide sufficient ventilation to minimise exposure. Use local mechanical exhaust ventilation at sources of air contamination such as open process equipment. Personal Protection Precautionary Measures: Do not get in eyes, on skin or on clothing. Wear goggles or a face shield along with protective clothing and chemical resistant gloves while handling. Avoid breathing vapour or mist. Keep container closed. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. This material is toxic to fish. Do not apply directly to water, or areas where surface water is present or to intertidal areas below the mean high water mark. Do not apply where runoff is likely to occur. Do not apply when weather conditions are likely to cause drift from treated areas. Runoff and drift from treated areas may be hazardous to aquatic organisms. Do not contaminate water when disposing of equipment washwaters. Eye Protection: Wear a face shield or chemical safety goggles to prevent eye contact during mixing/pouring operations or other activites in which eye contact with undiluted material is likely to occur. Have eye flusing equipment immediately available. Skin Protection: Wear face shield, protective long-sleeved clothing and impervious gloves during mixing/pouring operations or other activities in which contact with undiluted material is likely to occur. Wear chemical goggles or a face shield, and chemical resistant clothing such as a rubber apron when splashing is likely. Wash immediately if skin is contaminated. Wash thoroughly after handling. Launder contaminated clothing and clean protective equipment before re-use. Attention! Repeated or prolonged contact may cause allergic skin reaction in some people. Respiratory Protection: Avoid breathing mist or vapour. Respiratory protection should not be required for normal use/handling. During periods of abnormal exposure to heavy spray mists, the use of respiratory equipment approved for pesticide spray mists is recommended. The respirator use limitations specified by the manufacturer must be observed. 4 Safe Handling Information Storage and Transport Some top-clearing of the suspension may occur upon standing undisturbed for an extended period of time. Re-suspend by agitation. Store above -7 C (20 F) and below 38 C (100 F) to keep product in suspension. Below -7 C the product may freeze. If frozen, mix well to re-suspend when temperature is above 4 C (40 F). Above 38 C the product may become thick and unsprayable. Avoid contamination of fertilizers, spray materials, seed, feed, foodstuffs or water by storage or disposal. Australian Transport Code: Label: N/A Packaging Group: N/A EPG/GTEPG: Guide 47 Spills and Disposal Spill or Leakage Procedures: Observe all PRECAUTIONS FOR USE, including use of rubber boots or rubber overshoes, when cleaning up spills. Spills or leaks on floor or other impervious surfaces can be covered with attapulgite or bentonite. Scoop up contaminated clay, place in metal drum and dispose of in accordance with the instructions under Waste Disposal. When all possible solid material has been picked up, scrub surface with a strong detergent solution and rinse with water. Spills or leaks on the ground should be contained in the smallest possible area. Dig up heavily contaminated soil, place in drums and dispose of in accordance with the instructions under Waste Disposal. Leaking containers or collected spilled liquid should be placed in metal drums and disposed of in accordance with instructions under Waste Disposal. Waste Disposal: Waste resulting from the use of this product that cannot be used or chemically reprocessed should be disposed of in a landfill approved for pesticide disposal or buried on site in a safe place away from water supplies. Dispose of in accordance with all applicable local and state laws. Avoid contamination of fertilizers, spray materials, seed, feed, foodstuffs or water by storage or disposal. This product is toxic to fish and wildlife. Keep out of lakes, streams, or ponds. Containers: Do not reuse container. Destroy when empty. Triple rinse container adding rinsate to the spray tank. Concentrated material can be irritating to eyes and skin and may contribute to the eye and skin irritation potential reported in tests on RAMROD Flowable. Components: Ethylene Glycol. Ethylene glycol has been reported to cause eye irritation and slight skin irritation following repeated or prolonged contact. Inhalation of vapours and mists has been reported to cause respiratory tract irritation. Though not well absorbed following inhalation or skin contact, this material is rapidly absorbed orally. Poisoning from willful or accidental ingestion, often as a component of antifreeze, has been reported to cause central nervous system depression, vomiting, drowsiness, cardio-pulmonary and kidney dysfunction, inflammation of the brain and surrounding protective tissues, coma and death. Conversion of this chemical to oxalate by the body may produce crystals in the urine and concurrent irreversible kidney damage. Exposure to ethylene glycol in industrial settings is generally considered to pose only a low degree of risk when ingestion is avoided. Studies in laboratory animals confirmed the toxic effects to kidneys reported for humans. Ethylene glycol has produced developmental effects in laboratory animals following repeated oral exposures or repeated inhalation. Hydrated Aluminum Silicate (Kaolin Clay) (containing <1% crystalline silica) Ramrod Flowable herbicide contains up to <2% kaolin clay. Inhalation of excessive amounts of kaolin dust may produce coughing, sneezing and nasal irritation. Long-term overexposure to kaolin dust may cause respiratory difficulties, such as decreased lung capacity. Silica, Hydrated Amorphous Ramrod Flowable herbicide contains <5% silica gel (amorphous silica). Inhalation of silica dust can cause drying of mucous membranes of the eyes, nose and throat (due to absorption of moisture and oils) which may result in irritation and occasional nose bleeds. Repeated exposure to silica gel has not been reported to have significant adverse health effects in workers. However, persons with breathing problems or lung diseases may be at an increased risk. Laboratory studies in animals exposed by inhalation to silica gel have shown no adverse effects. Reason for update: Minor text corrections.
