Bronchiolitis Why use homeopathy? Bronchiolitis is a serious public health issue because of the number of children suffering from the condition and the risk of it developing into full-blown asthma. Faced with the lack of effective treatment for bronchial congestion, more and more physicians are using homeopathic medicine, combined with respiratory physiotherapy, as gold standard treatment of the acute phase of bronchiolitis. It relieves and soothes children and in many cases prevents hospitalization. The benefit of homeopathy A study of national practice in France (2002)! revealed that homeopathic medicine can be used effectively to reduce the duration of acute attacks and prevent further complications. The prevention of recurrence, with the known risk of development into full-blown asthma, is also one of the reasons for choosing homeopathic treatment. Homeopathic treatment can be used for simple bronchiolitis not requiring a hospital stay. A preventive treatment will avoid the repeated episodes that can develop into asthma later on. Our advice Improvement should be seen quickly with homeopathic treatment (within 24 to 48 hours). Homeopathic treatment is a complement to, and should be combined with, physiotherapy. We provide here some information on treating the most frequent types of bronchiolitis. Some recurring forms require chronic treatment, a topic that is not dealt with here and which requires further training.
Bronchiolitis Tool-box Dissolve 10 pellets of each medicine in a small quantity of water; administer in fractions every hour. Two medicines can be taken together. Antimonium tartaricum 9C Sibilant rales. Major congestion. Improved by bronchial drainage. Blatta orientalis 9C Congestion +++. Tendency to allergy (dust and mites). Cuprum metallicum 9C Marked spasm. Cyanosis. Ipecac 9C Spasmodic cough. Auscultation: sibilant rales +++, slight rales. Projectile vomiting. Prevention of recurrence Blatta orientalis 15C, 10 pellets every other week. Allergic tendencies. Sensitivity to dust and mites.
Bronchiolitis Clinical practice An infant with a viral infection presents with spasmodic cough and sibilant rales. He cannot keep his bottle down and vomits when fed. The congestion is not very important yet, but this will probably evolve if left untreated. Ipecac 9C, Antimonium tartaricum 9C, 10 pellets of each to dissolve in a little water. Administer in fractions every hour. A child with marked congestion requiring bronchial drainage that relieves the discomfort. Antimonium tartaricum 9C, Blatta orientalis 9C, 10 pellets of each to dissolve in a little water. Administer in fractions every hour. An 18-month-old child presenting with febrile rhinopharyngitis for the last 36 hours, has continuous spasmodic coughing (day and night). The child is uncomfortable but there is no respiratory distress. The auscultation evidences numerous sibilant rales but no congestion, which confirms the diagnosis made by the physiotherapist who has already seen the child. Ipecac 9C, Cuprum metallicum 9C, 10 pellets of each to dissolve in a little water. A mother consults with her 10-month-old baby who has already had 2 episodes of bronchiolitis. The baby is given a preventive treatment to stop recurrence. Blatta orientalis 15C, 10 pellets, every week. The physiotherapist or the physician should see the child again within 24 hours. The mother should inform the physician of the child's condition within 6 hours. She has an inhalation device and salbutamol treatment on hand.
Bronchiolitis
Herpes Why use homeopathy? Allopathic drugs (aciclovir, valaciclovir) are expensive and not without adverse effects. Homeopathic treatment used during the acute phase can often stop, reduce or space out the flare-ups The benefit of homeopathy There are homeopathic medicines that are effective on the primary vesicle. There are other medicines depending on the various aspects and stages of the outbreak. It is possible to anticipate prescription since certain situations are known to favor outbreaks: menstrual cycle, sun exposure, fever, stress, reduced immunity, etc. Our advice It is necessary to act quickly, from the first symptoms, to halt the development or reduce the intensity and frequency of outbreaks. Great care must be taken with ocular herpes; an ophthalmologist should be consulted.
Herpes Tool-box Apis mellifica 15C, 5 pellets every hour; increasing the interval between doses as symptoms improve. To prescribe at the onset of first symptoms. Stinging sensation. Edema at the beginning stage. Borax 15C, 5 pellets 4 times daily until cured. Small clusters of vesicles. Filled with an opalescent fluid. The vesicles merge into a single pseudo-vesicle with irregular margins. Often genital herpes in men. Cantharis 15C, 5 pellets 4 times daily until cured. Vesicular bulbous lesion. Can evolve towards an ulceration. Often a fever blister. Croton tiglium 15C, 5 pellets 4 times daily until cured. Pus-filled vesicles. Possibly developing yellowish crusts. Characteristic unbearable and painful itching, that the patient does not dare scratch. Often a genital or anal localization. Rhus toxicodendron 15C, 5 pellets every hour; increasing the interval between doses as symptoms improve. Systematically indicated. Vesicles contain a clear fluid and have a red, itchy base. To be taken from the onset of first symptoms (even before the vesicles appear), and during the recurrence to reduce or prevent outbreaks. Vaccinotoxinum 15C, 10 pellets. Effective on the development of herpes. To be prescribed as soon as possible.
Herpes Clinical practice A 35-year-old woman with outbreaks of genital herpes during menstruation. On examination, there are small vesicles and very intense pruritus. Vaccinotoxinum 15C, 10 pellets as soon as possible. Rhus toxicodendron 15C, 5 pellets every hour, alternately with Apis mellifica 15C, 5 pellets every hour. The intervals between doses of Rhus toxicodendron and Apis mellifica should be increased as symptoms improve. Croton tiglium 15C, 5 pellets 4 times daily until cured. A 17-year-old girl often presents with herpes on the lips after exposure to the sun or during fever. On the day of the consultation she has a "fever blister". Cantharis 15C, 5 pellets 4 times daily until cured. A 41-year-old man presents with a cluster of vesicles on the penis resembling phylectena and partially ulcerated. Vaccinotoxinum 15C, 10 pellets as soon as possible. Rhus toxicodendron 15C, 5 pellets every hour, alternately with Apis mellifica 15C, 5 pellets every hour. The intervals between doses of Rhus toxicodendron and Apis mellifica should be increased as symptoms improve Borax 15C, 5 pellets 4 times daily until cured.
