2 1 INTRODUCTION I take great pleasure in sharing with all of you my experience using laser light to help heal patients of so many debilitating conditions. In our practice, we are using MLS Laser Therapy with our proprietary customized treatment protocols, and we are seeing upwards of a 90 percent positive response rate. Since beginning my practice in 1985 I have never seen a treatment modality impact so many conditions and patients quality of life. We also have the distinction of being the first pain practice in South Florida to use the MLS Laser Therapy technology in practice. We have currently performed well in excess of over 10,000 customized treatments for a many painful conditions. In many cases our treatment has been successful where other treatments have failed. My experience with laser therapy began while practicing in New York and during the years in which I was studying toward my master s degree in acupuncture. In 1995, while attending Tri-State College of Acupuncture in Manhattan one of my fellow students came to class with a small device which looked a like a folded pocket knife. Once opened I could see the small red laser on one end, which as it was explained to me, was a low level laser (aka cold laser) which could be used instead of acupuncture needles to treat acupuncture points. Intrigued by this I immediately purchased one for myself, and as my colleague observed, I found many applications for laser acupuncture, and I have been using lasers in my practice from that point on. Since that time laser therapy has become increasingly popular with many types of therapeutic lasers in the marketplace. But it was not until 2010 when I began using the high powered MLS Laser from ASA Laser of Italy, that my opinion about laser therapy really changed. Up until 2010, I had tinkered with many low level lasers and I knew laser therapy was safe to apply. I also knew they were well researched, and there were no side effects from the treatment, but the results were oftentimes mixed. Some patients would have better outcomes than others; some would have complete relief, while others did not respond at all, and others would only have partial relief. I especially found treating deep conditions hard to help, such as hip pain, or lower back pain, for example. Low level lasers had a very interesting beginning. It was originally thought that these types of lasers could harm people, but a physician researcher named Endre Mester, from Budapest, Hungary found something very curious when he was experimenting with low level laser. In the late 1960s he took several mice, shaved their backs, and applied low level laser to one group. What he found was a surprise to him. Instead of seeing damage to the skin of the treatment group, he found the hair in that group grew back exponentially faster than the control group. In other research Dr. Mester found that using this type of laser could heal non-healing skin ulcers that otherwise would not heal with conventional medical care. Thus Dr. Mester is credited as the Father of laser therapy. Dr. Mester went on to publish in excess of 100 scientific papers before his death in 1984.

3 2 ASA LASER OF ITALY In 1983, ASA Laser was founded in Italy. From that point on ASA was at the forefront of therapeutic laser research, developing many laser devices. After performing numerous scientific studies ASA Laser released the Multi Wave Locked System (MLS) laser system in The MLS Laser is by far the best researched high powered laser on the market today with in vitro, in vivo, and clinical studies supporting its use for many conditions. In 2005 after review by the Food and Drug Administration, the MLS Laser was granted clearance by the FDA for the treatment of pain. The MLS Laser was first used by veterinarians to treat animals and then in 2008, it was introduced into human medicine. The MLS Laser pulse is so unique in comparison to other high powered laser products, that the inventor received a US Patent in 2012 (No. US 8,251,982 B2). MLS Lasers are used internationally in clinics and hospitals and they are also used by major athletic teams including the NBA, MLB, and the NFL. MLS Laser is also used by a variety of doctors including pain management doctors, neurosurgeons, orthopedics surgeons, podiatrists to treat foot pain, dentists to treat jaw pain, etc. 3 LIGHT CAN CURE The word laser is actually an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Briefly, we shine specific wavelengths of light with known healing properties at different frequencies, which in turn activate the cells of the damaged tissue to heal by giving them light energy. This is a very simple explanation of a complex sequence of chemical events which involves the cellular respiration process, but it gives the average person an understanding of what we are trying to accomplish. Up until 2010 I continued to tinker with low level lasers. We had red diode lasers, green, blue, you name it, we tried it. I always stayed away from the new high power lasers for fear of burning or injuring patients. This new class of lasers had some risk, but was capable of penetrating more deeply into the tissues making the treatment more effective, where low level lasers may have failed. In theory one could use a low level laser to treat deep hip arthritis, but the treatment time would be lengthy, whereas with a high power laser, the treatment would take a few minutes to complete. But the risk of hurting a patient kept me away until I saw the MLS Laser. Unlike other high power lasers the MLS Laser combines two wave lengths of infrared laser light (808 nm & 905 nm) in a synchronous manner, which minimizes the unwanted heat and produces a strong stimulation which reduces pain, swelling, and inflammation simultaneously. This is unique to the MLS Laser, and no other laser uses this patented synchronized pulse.

Research has been conducted by the departments of Biology at the University of Turin (Italy) and the University of Padova (Brazil), as well as the Department of Anatomy and the Orthopedic Clinic at the University of Padova. Research has verified the remarkable effectiveness of MLS Laser Therapy. In addition to the extensive in vitro, in vivo, and clinical research, there is an extensive amount of published research on therapeutic lasers published in scientific journals all of the world, including research from prestigious academic and medical centers such as Harvard University. There are over 5,000 scientific papers published worldwide on the efficacy of Laser Therapy. There are over 4000 laboratory studies on laser therapy, In addition, there are over 400 randomized, double blind, placebo controlled clinical trials studying Laser Therapy. Each year there are over 360 new papers published yearly in scientific journals. To further the research effort, and in particular to healthcare practitioners which use MLS Laser Therapy, we have formed a national organization called the Laser Pain Management Association (LPMA). I am proud to be a founding member of this organization and hold a position on their Board of Directors. The LPMA is paving the way by gathering large amounts of treatment outcomes data with the goal of improving treatment protocols and using this data for scientific purposes. This global database will be used to show the public and research community the effectiveness of MLS Laser Therapy for the treatment of a wide variety of painful conditions. SCOTT DENNY BIO Dr. Denny holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Excelsior College, and a Bachelor of Professional Studies and Master Science degree from Tri-State College of Acupuncture (TSCA) in New York City. He also holds a Ph.D. in Electromedical Science and has had the honor of being the past President of American Academy of Pain Management (AAPM). He is a past member of the AAPM Board of Directors and Board of Advisors. He has served on numerous AAPM committees including; membership, education, planning, scientific posters, certification standards, examination writing, utilization, Pain Program Accreditation (PPA), and the technology and integrative medicine committees. He is also a 1984 graduate of the New York Chiropractic College and is past faculty of New York Chiropractic College, and is a founding Trustee of the University of Integrated Studies. Dr. Denny is the former head of acupuncture services at Holy Cross Hospital Feldman Center for Optimal Health. He is the inventor and developer of Dodai Fusion Therapy.
