Hooley, D.Phil. Graduate Student Researcher Understanding default mode network (DMN) activation and connectivity across the clinical course of depression Performed data analyses on a previously collected neuroimaging data set on DMN activation and effective connectivity after negative self-referential information in currently and recovered depressed individuals. Conducted a longitudinal neuroimaging study on DMN activation and effective connectivity after negative self-referential information in individuals at-risk (females with high levels of neuroticism) for depression but with no current or lifetime history of depression. Identifying maladaptive cognitions associated with DMN activity Conducted two behavioral mind-wandering studies on the specific mind-wandering thoughts associated with being exposed to negative self-referential information

3 Tina Chou 3 Modulating maladaptive cognitions by changing DMN activity Administered transcranial direct current stimulation to a DMN region to change maladaptive mind-wandering thoughts after exposure to negative self-referential information (in collaboration with Joan A. Camprodon, M.D., M.P.H., Ph.D., at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School). Massachusetts General Hospital Charlestown, MA Psychiatric Neuroscience, Division of Neurotherapeutics May 2009 August 2012 Advisors: Darin D. Dougherty, M.D., Thilo Deckersbach, Ph.D., & Karleyton C. Evans, M.D. Clinical Research Coordinator II Selected Protocols: Controlled trial of deep brain stimulation for OCD (PI: Darin Dougherty, M.D.) Assisted with all aspects of clinical trials of deep brain stimulation for treatment resistant OCD. Also helped with related protocols investigating DBS mechanism of action (analyzed positron emission tomography scans during DBS) and identifying behavioral predictors (e.g., fear extinction, reward sensitivity) of DBS response. An fmri study of affect and its influence on cognition (PI: Thilo Deckersbach, Ph.D.) Conducted and analyzed MRI scans to identify neural correlates of affective interference on cognitive tasks in individuals with bipolar disorder. Also helped with related protocols investigating neural correlates of cognitive behavior therapy response in patients with bipolar disorder, and treatment related changes in affective interference. EMBARC: Establishing moderators and biosignatures of antidepressant response for clinical care (PI: Maurizio Fava, M.D.) Conducted MRI scans for the Harvard/MGH site in a multi-site, nationwide study identifying neural biomarkers of antidepressant response.
