3 MEDICAL-DENTAL The High Complexity Dental Care Center of Fundación Cardioinfantil Instituto de Cardiología has been a pioneer and leader in the medical and dental management of patients with systemic compromise. As a result of its experience, it is positioned as the most competent in the country and the region for identifying, diagnosing and preparing a comprehensive dental treatment plan to address dental-orofacial issues in the context of systemic disease. The Center s record and experience is supported by the number of patients with various diseases including prosthetic valves, atrial fibrillation, arrhythmias, angioplasty, coronary bypass, congenital heart disease; blood dyscrasias, hemophilia, deep vein thrombosis, thrombocytopenia; trauma or oral cancer sequelae; chronic patients with more than two systemic diseases and multiple medications. Every year, care is provided to an average of 1,800 new patients, 74% presenting with one or more systemic diseases. 5 CARE MODEL Since its inception 25 years ago, the care model has centered on the attending dentist responsible for the comprehensive treatment, with the intervention or participation of the various medical-dental specialties. Our mission is to recover, maintain and care for oral health for our patients. We are committed to patient safety and quality care with a profoundly humane approach. HIGH DENTAL-OROFACIAL COMPLEXITY High complexity dentistry is defined as the specialty that provides comprehensive management to patients with severe complications involving the function of the stomatognathic system. These complications include oral cancer sequelae, facial trauma, congenital malformations, and they may be present in patients with one or more systemic disorders. Because of its experience and care record, the High Complexity Dental Care Center of Fundación Cardioinfantil is the top referral center no only for patients with systemic diseases but also for patients with high complexity dental and orofacial disorders requiring HOSPITAL CARE. ATTENDING DENTIST PROSTODONTICS ENDODONTICS ORTHODONTICS AND MAXILLARY ORTOPEDICS PERIODONTICS ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY The High Complexity Dental Care Center of Fundación Cardioinfantil Instituto de Cardiología consists of the following 4 divisions Obturators for oroantral/oronasal. communication defects. Maxillofacial prostheses for orofacial defect reconstructions, including skin, eye prosthesis, pinna and nose. Osseointegration maxillary, mandibular or zygomatic implants. Mandibular reconstruction. Total Temporomandibular Joint replacement. Temporomandibular Joint Arthrocentesis. Pre- and post surgical orthodontics. 6 STOMATOLOGY AND HOSPITALIZATION DIVISION ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY DIVISION As part of the comprehensive care model of the High Complexity Dental Care Center, the team of Maxillofacial surgeons has developed dental care lines with the following divisions: Stomatology. Patient preparation prior to endodontic, periodontal or oral surgery procedures in patients with anticoagulation, blood dyscrasias, deep vein thrombosis or stroke, among others, either in the outpatient clinic or in the hospital. This Division comprises the following specialties: General dentistry Endodontics Pediatric dentistry Periodontics The team of specialists plans comprehensive treatment in accordance with the needs of the patient in the OUTPATIENT CLINIC, HOSPITALIZATION, or IN THE OPERATING ROOM UNDER GENERAL ANESTHESIA. The Stomatology Division is part of the cardiovascular focus and of the humane, timely and efficient comprehensive care model for the benefit of patients and their families. THIS MODEL HAS A POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM. Hygiene phase. Elimination of soft or calcified plaque and removal of local irritants and dental cavities. Therapeutic phase. Dental work with resins, endodontics and periodontics. Surgical phase. Removal of residual dental tissue according to clinical criteria for tooth extraction. A General Anesthesia package is offered for comprehensive dental treatment for both children and adults. The package includes: Education to parents or tutors before and after treatment. Prevention: Scaling and prophylaxis, sealants, fluoride. Dental Fillings: Amalgam, resin and/or ionomer. Endodontics: Pulpotomy, Root Canals in single root, two-root and multiple-root teeth. Oral surgery: First level temporal and permanent teeth extractions Soft and hard tissue abnormalities Dental and facial abnormalities Temporomandibular joint Maxillofacial trauma Reconstructive surgery Prosthodontics and Oral Restoration. Dental and orofacial reconstruction and closure of oronasal, oroantral communications, and in sequelae from oncologic surgery o trauma. Participation in the oral Restoration plan with the study of stereolithographic models, CT scans, surgical guides and dental casts. In patients who require dental restoration with prosthesis supported on implants, participating in the oral restoration plan from the preparation of the bone bed to the placement of the implant and final Restoration. In the management of patients with temporomandibular joint pain or dysfunction, using bite splints, pivot splints or deprogrammers. Orthodontics. In the ortho-surgical treatment of patients with dento-facial abnormalities, maxillary and mandibular size and shape abnormalities with pre- and post surgical orthodontics
7 PROSTHODONTICS ORAL RESTORATION DIVISION The Prosthodontics Oral Restoration Division is unique in that it provides treatment to patients with specific low, medium and high complexity disorders, with or without systemic diseases. This specialty works jointly with plastic surgery, head and neck surgery and maxillofacial surgery, endodontics and orthodontics, in order to determine the treatment plan. It seeks to solve the needs of patients with dental loss or severe bone resorption of the alveolar ridge, restoring function and cosmesis, or offering reconstruction to patients with sequelae from oncologic surgery or trauma, such as closure of oronasal or oroantral communications. ORTHODONTICS AND MAXILLARY ORTHOPEDICS DIVISION The orthodontics division teams with Maxillofacial surgery to diagnose severe dentofacial abnormalities in order to determine the treatment plan, including orthosurgical correction, orthognatic surgery and post surgical orthodontics. Diagnostic studies: X-rays, Stereolithographic models, CT scans, Surgical guides and Diagnostic Waxing. Restoration using metal-ceramic crowns, ceramic only crowns, or computerized techniques. Restoration using removable and semi-precision attachments. Restoration using crowns on osseointegration implants. Restoration using total fixed or removable prostheses on implants. Restoration using removable or total conventional prosthesis. Restoration using obturator prostheses for oroantral/oronasal communication defects Restoration using reconstruction prostheses for orofacial defects, including skin, ocular prosthesis, pinna and nose. Ortho-surgical orthodontics Conventional and non-conventional corrective orthodontics The Maxillary Orthopedics specialty provides care to children up to 12 years of age with maxillary/mandibular abnormalities and altered tooth position, with or without systemic compromise. In syndromes with dento-maxillo-facial abnormalities, cleft lip and palate, in order to intercept, correct, prevent and modify functional and skeletal changes, reducing the time and complexity of future orthodontic requirements.
