2 Oral Hygiene Day Celebration: Dental Camp Report Date: 1 st August 2014,Friday Venue: Rural Health Training Centre,MadanpurKhader HIMSR & HAH Centenary Hospital Hamdard University, New Delhi Dr. G.B. Shankwalkar the doyen of Indian Periodontics,was born on the 1 st of August and to commemorate his birth anniversary Oral Hygiene day is celebrated this day every year to bring awarenessaboutthe prevention of dental/oral diseases. The department of dentistry was no exception to this.every year department of dentistry has been proactive in organizing dental camps not only in the rural and peripheral centres of HIMSR & HAH Centenary Hospital, but also in the adjoining settlements, schools and various old age homes. Oral hygiene day was also celebrated in the year 2013 in the Urban Health Training Centre at PulPrahaladpur and over 70 patients were examined. Distribution of colgate toothpastes was also done. This year the Oral Hygiene day was celebrated at the rural health training centermadanpurkhader. Dr. Nilima Sharma,Assistant Professor Dentistry, the Organizing Secretary of this event.she with her team and with the co-operation of the Community Medicine department organized a Dental Camp on the 1 st of August at the Rural Health Training Centre at MadanpurKhader. The dental department offered free dental checkup, consultation and distribution of Colgate toothpastes. Patients of both genders and all ages availed the services of the camp.medication such as antibiotics and analgesics were also distributed to the needy. Nukkadnatak was presented by the nursing students. Professor S.Dwivedi Dean HIMSR conducted health talk emphasizing the importance of oral health on systemic health. Professor Kapilashrami conducted heath talk citing the ill effects of tobacco and maintainence of good oral hygiene. Despite the rains and the festivities of Ramazan the patient turn -over was fair and a total of over 100 patients were examined.

4 Professor S.Dwivedi Dean HIMSR conducted health talk emphasizing the importance of oral health on systemic health.also the common causes of oral cancer and the oral manifestations of precancerous condition was highlighted to the patients. Health talk was delivered by Dr. Nilima Sharmaon the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene, symptoms of dental cavities, gingival and periodontal diseases and the treatment of the same. 6 Nukkadnatakpresentedby nursing students depicted the myths prevailing among the minds of the masses regarding dental treatment,addressing the importance oforal hygiene and the timely visit to the dentist for dental maladies. NukkadNatak: Nursing Students

It achieved its goal of reaching out to the underprivileged section of the society, citing to them the importance of good oral health, an aspect is so often neglected by this strata of the society.
