Grades are assessed on 2 mid-term projects (short reports and presentations). Specific criteria for grading them will be given on the instructions for each assignment. The assignments and the weights they carry are as follows: 1. Public health experiences (Problem in public health) 10% 9/18 2. Public health experiences (Dental workforce) 10/2 3. There are no exams in the course. Academic Integrity The faculty of the School of Public Health believes that the conduct of a student registered or taking courses in the School should be consistent with that of a professional person. Courtesy, honesty, and respect should be shown by students toward faculty members, guest lecturers, administrative support staff, and fellow students. Similarly, students should expect faculty to treat them fairly, showing respect for their ideas and opinions and striving to help them achieve maximum benefits from their experience in the School. Student academic misconduct refers to behavior that may include plagiarism, cheating, fabrication, falsification of records or official documents, intentional misuse of equipment or 4 EPID 595/DENT_ED 595 8/31/2009

5 materials (including library materials), and aiding and abetting the perpetration of such acts. The preparation of reports, papers, and examinations, assigned on an individual basis, must represent each student s own effort. Reference sources should be indicated clearly. The use of assistance from other students or aids of any kind during a written examination, except when the use of aids such as electronic devices, books or notes has been approved by an instructor, is a violation of the standard of academic conduct. Presentations and Assignments All written assignments must be prepared with a word processor and be submitted doublespaced. The face page on each assignment should carry your name, course number (EPID 595 or DENT_ED 595), and assignment number and title. Written assignments should use sub-headings as appropriate, and follow the usual conventions of scientific writing. Proper spelling and grammar are essential to effective communication and should be given much care. References are to be given in the Vancouver format ( or as now used in the majority of biomedical journals and in Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology. Oral assignments should be presented in a professional manner such as would be used when addressing a governmental agency, a scientific meeting, or the American Board of Dental Public Health. 5 EPID 595/DENT_ED 595 8/31/2009
