1 SAUDI BOARD RESIDENCY TRAINING PROGRAM (Oral and maxillofacial surgery) Part One Examination 2017 Objectives: The Saudi Board Part I Examination is designedd to assess basic knowledge in principles and clinical judgment relevant too Endodontic specialty and related applied basic sciences. Eligibility: Current registration in Saudi Specialty Training Program of oral and maxillofacial surgery Successful completion of at least nine months of training in any SCFHS residency training program. Completion of registration form for Saudi Board Part I Examination. Rules: The Saudi Board Part I specialty examination will be held at least once each year on a date published on SCFHS website. percentage of failures in examination is 50% excluding R1 candidates, exam shall be repeated after 6 months. Upon approval of General Secretary and at discretion of Scientific Examinationn Committee (SEC), exam may be repeated even if failure is less than 50% with a maximumm number of two exams per academic year. both examination (written promotion examination and Part I specialty examination) conducted same year, a candidate who passed Partt I specialty examination is exempt from promotion written examination for (R1 only) in four year SCFHS accredited Programs.

2 Candidates are allowed a maximumm of three attempts to pass Saudi Board Part I specialty examination and an exceptional attempt may be granted once during whole training period upon recommenda ation of Scientificc council of specialty and approval of executive council, before being dismissed from program. Passing Saudi Board Part I specialty examination is a prerequisite for any candidate to proceed to senior level of training as determined by specialty. Examination Format: The Saudi specialty certificate program in oral and maxillofacial surgery Part I specialty written examination shall consist of one paper with minimumm 120 single best answer (SBA) MCQs. Ten unscorred items can be added for pretesting purposes. Each question will have four options to choose from (A, B, C, D) ). any or assessment format is used, CAC must agree to its implementation. Questions will be K2 (reasoning and application) and K1 (recall and comprehension) ). Clinical presentation questions include history,, clinical finding and patient approach. Management questions; includes non rapeutic, rapeutic, patient safety, complication. Health maintenance questions; ; includes health promotion, disease prevention, risk factors assessment, and prognosis, see examples below. The examination contentt cover topics relevant to Endodontic as well as research, EBM, professionalism and medical ethics see blueprintt below. Examination Conduct and Duration: The exam duration is 2½ hours and will be delivered as a computer based test when available, orwise paper and pencil.

3 Passing Score: The passing score is 70%. However if percentage of candidates passing exam is less than 70%, passing score can be lowered by onee mark at a time aiming at achieving 70% passing rate or a score of 65% whichever comes first. Under NO circumstances, may score can be reduced below 65%. No compensatio on is allowed between annual Continuous Evaluation Report (CER) and Saudi Board Part I Specialty Examination passingg scores. Score Report: All score reports shall go through a post hoc item analysis before being approved by both Assistant of General Secretary for Postgraduate studies of SCFHS and SEC, and n issued by SCFHS within two weeks of examination. SEC shall provide scientific council for specialty with results feedback represents performance of all residents based on each section of exam according to test blueprint, and based on ir training center if possible. Exemption The SCFHS at present has no reciprocal arrangemen nt with respect to this examination or qualification by any or college or board, in any specialty. Therefore, exemption from examination due to completion of any or previous postgraduate studies/examination has to be approved by scientific council.
