We intend to maintain a register of volunteers for our future reference. HSWA is always seeking committed volunteers especially at the time of organising events. 2 Nach Baliye: Well organised and enjoyed by all. Nach Baliye, the programme organised by HSWA for teenagers where by parents can drop the kids off for a few hours of entertainment which includes music, food, soft drinks and prizes as well. The evening provided an excellent opportunity for kids to mingle, show and demonstrate dance, dance and dance. Whilst attendance for this function was much less than expected, it turned out to be great evening for the kids who made the effort to attend. We received a reasonable attendance of 25 although we were hoping for a number around 40. A suggestion also came to defer the program for a later date but having 25 tickets sold/committed, we decided that it would be unreasonable to disappoint those 25 for the sake of 15 who could not make it. The DJ was excellent- well done Shyam and Aadil for the rocking music. The songs collection was great and included thrillers such as Badtameez- Badtameez that were perfectly fit for the purpose. Before participants had their pizzas dinner, everyone reiterated 'Hindi Samaj hamara hai'. Once again, the committee displayed a great team work. Sure everyone made its best effort but Anita Guppta deserves a bit more for coordinating this event, organising prizes and taking up most of the tension. Above all, a big thank you to the parents for allowing their children to attend this function We request your feedback and suggestions so that we can tailor our future events to suit your needs and availability.

3 Phulwari: A night of talents galore. Phulwari, the programme for children held in October provided an excellent opportunity to our young kids for stage performance. We received an over whelming response from our community, both Hindi and non -Hindi speaking. Stage performance by 60 kids and attendance by more than 150 people from all ages against an anticipated maximum of 80 speaks of an increasing awareness and the enthusiasm. Variety of performances included dances on popular Bollywood, English and even Korean song, tunes played on keyboard, flute and guitar as well as poems and skits. All of us were spellbound by the super performances. It was great to watch the two skits presented by our Paathshala students. Introduction of three different MC pairs was to give more children a chance to perform as MC and they did a wonderful job. The main attraction Fancy dress and Cat walk conducted by Kriti Chhabra, was taken as a pleasant surprise. It was great to watch even two and a half year old walking on the stage and enjoying an evening. Mrs Jyotsna Chhabra organised and sequenced the whole event very well. Chaat was enjoyed by everyone and it was beautifully managed by our team members; Madhu Handa, Ashrafji, Sudesh Aggarwal, Anita Guppta, Sanjeev Narang, with support of their families. Team of Hindi Samaj is grateful to Abhinav Sharma who managed the PA system very well and also Shagun, Raji, Vaibhav and their friends who helped us in decorating the stage. Well done kids. Mr Iqbal captured the moments in his camera. Certificate of appreciation and a gift on behalf of Hindi Samaj was given to every participant.

4 मध म (Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)) ब द खतरर क सकत Diabetic ketoacidosis is a serious problem that happens to people with diabetes when chemicals called ketones build up in their blood. Normally, the body breaks down sugar (glucose) as a source of energy. But in people with diabetes, the body is unable to use sugar. When the body can t use sugar, it burns fat as a source of energy. But burning fat can cause the body to make too many ketones. When ketones build up in the blood, they can be toxic. म ख य क रण Diabetic ketoacidosis can happen due to undiagnosed, untreated or poorly treated diabetes. Infection, trauma, heart attack, or surgery can lead to diabetic ketoacidosis in a diabetic person. Missing doses of insulin can also lead to ketoacidosis in people with diabetes. क षण Warning signs include deep & rapid breathing, dry skin and mouth, flushed face, fruity breath, nausea and vomiting, tummy pain. Other symptoms that can occur are fatigue, frequent urination or thirst, confusion, muscle stiffness or aching, shortness of breath, decreased appetite, decreased consciousness, and headache. इस र ग क ज च The medical professional performs blood tests to check the blood sugar and ketone levels of the patient. In addition, an ECG can be conducted as DKA can cause heart problems. इ ज Treatment usually requires admission to the hospital. The goal of treatment is to correct the high blood glucose level by giving more insulin. Another goal is to replace fluids and electrolytes lost through excessive urination and vomiting. चचककत स ववश षज ञ स कब स पकन कर This condition can become a medical emergency. 5 Paatshaala Update Paathashala Children celebrated Diwali together. On this occasion they all came in their traditional costumes. They painted and decorated Diyas to take home. They shared sweets and sparklers together and learnt about the reason we celebrate Diwali.
