International Netball
Overview Commonwealth Games Programme (our reality) Activity Profile of Netball Framework Critical Physical Qualities
Evolution of the Game
International Programme to COG 2018
2018 Commonwealth Games
Activity Profile of Netball. What do we know? Very little published research at the elite level. Fox, Spittle, Otago, and Saunders (2013): Positional differences exist with regard to w:r ratio and movement patterns. However, high intensity efforts prevalent ranging seconds with the most frequent work period less than 4 seconds across all positions.
Summary of International Acc Data vs Aus 2016 P l Position a Load Distance Per 1/4 M/min y Match Total # L/R COD L/R COD per min Jumps Low <20cm Jumps Med 20-40cm Jumps High >40cm Match Total Jumps Total Direction Changes = Jumps and COD Total Directional Changes per minute C LL WD, GD G, GA B WA L GS B GK C M/COD 0.49 As seen with Fox et al (2013), positional demands evident heavily influenced by court space restrictions. Ferns approach: 1. Continue to improve overall athleticism in players 2. Position specific training on court 3. Individualise player capacity by position. Big Rocks approach.
What we believe we want in a player. Good LB Strength - Is correlated with differing variables of athletic performance such as sprinting, vertical jump and change of direction. (Wisløff, Castagna, Helgerud, Jones, & Hoff, 2004; Chaouachi et al., 2009, Spiteri et al,2013) underpinning power output (M. H. Stone et al., 2003) and RFD (Aargard et al., 2006, Schmidtbleicher, 1992)??? Also support reduction of injury risk ACL incidence is high. Injury = zero performance. Power - Superior ability to generate maximal power typically results in enhanced athletic performance. (Kraemer & Newton, 2000; Young et al., 2005; Sleivert & Taingahue, 2004)??? Acceleration, COD and Agility - Critical. Aerobic Capacity - The contribution of aerobic metabolism to high intensity efforts increases over time. Key physiological determinant intermittent sports performance. Aids in recovery, enhanced PCr re generation (Spencer, Bishop, Dawson, & Goodman, 2005; Stone & Kilding, 2009) (Tomlin & Wenger, 2001).
Netball Strength and Conditioning Framework 2017 To physically prepare netballers in a holistic fashion for the positional demands of international training and competition enabling them to perform to the best of their ability every time they take to the court. Physical Quality Associated Test Sports Specific Application and Significance ANZ Exit Level Acceptable International Range Gold Medal International Targets Parallel Squat Enhanced deceleration, change of direction ability, acceleration, landing mechanics and injury prevention. Increases time to exhaustion, enhances recovery from both accute and chronic bouts of exercise GA Aerobic Capacity WA and Aerobic Power C WD GD GK Body Composition Skinfolds As part of your physical preparation your body composition (weight and skin folds) will be assessed and individual recommendations given to help you achieve your performance potential. A strong relationship is know to exist between body composition and performance in a number of physical capacties including yoyo performance, speed, agility and relative strength and power. Additionally athletes with weight and skin folds either too high or too low are at an increased risk of injury. Movement Competency MCS To ensure movement patterns free of dysfunction or pain and promote strong athletic positioning and good landing strategies on court. Aids in injury incidence reduction Framework drives physical performance conversations with coaches.
Not as simple as not fit, so drop them. Does it transfer to on court performance?? Relationship between work rate and results??
