PROBLEM SOLUTION DRY EYES DANDRUFF The precise cause of Dandruff is unclear. The top layer of skin is constantly being shed and renewed. Dandruff may result from an overproduction and shedding of dead skin from the scalp. Pityrosporum is a microscopic fungus that is normally present on oily areas of the skin. People who have dandruff often have an unusually large amount of this fungus on the scalp resulting with white scales in the hair and on the clothes. This may be associated with itching. Dandruff is always widely scattered on the scalp rather than being patchy. Tears lubricate and protect our eyes against infection. Dry eye can occur if not enough tears are produced to keep the eye surface moist, or if the tears do not stay on the eyes long enough. Symptoms include itching, irritation, red eyes and grittiness. People with dry eyes find it difficult to wear contact lenses. There is no cure, but the symptoms can be minimised. Ageing, menopause, medical conditions such as arthritis, some medications and climactic conditions can cause dry eye syndrome. Scalp conditions should be checked by your Doctor to rule out other more serious conditions such as eczema, psoriasis or seborrhea dermatitis. Massage your scalp for a few minutes each day to stimulate the circulation and loosen dead skin cells. Wash your hair regularly with an anti-dandruff shampoo with fungicides. Stress has been known to play a significant part in skin conditions such as dandruff, so relaxation techniques may be of assistance. Most people with Dry eye also have blepharitis (inflammation of the rims of the eyelids). This can be managed by keeping the eyelids clean, and massaging any trapped material out of the glands in the rim of the eyelid. Mild to moderate cases of Dry eye can normally be successfully managed with eye drops available from a pharmacy without prescription. In more severe cases your GP may recommend anti-inflammatory medicine and specialised eyewear. If the condition fails to respond to treatment, surgery may be required. $19.99 Nizoral 1% Anti-Dandruff Treatment 200ml $5.99 Refresh Tears Plus 15ml MIGRAINE Migraine attacks are usually unilateral (on one side only), involve moderate or severe pain and are pulsating. Other symptoms may include nausea, vomiting and avoidance of light (photophobia). Between 10 and 20% of Migraine sufferers experience what is called an 'aura', a sensation that warns them of a Migraine attack. An aura may be a visual sensation e.g. blurred vision, flashing lights, difficulty speaking or numbness or tingling sensations. Auras occur about one hour or less before the Migraine starts. Acute treatments for Migraines are used to control the symptoms of a Migraine during or shortly before an attack. These medications are most effective if they are used as early as possible. Analgesics such as paracetamol, ibuprofen and aspirin are used to control pain during a Migraine attack. Nausea and vomiting might need to be treated with other drugs, which usually require a Doctor's prescription. Migraines that do not respond to standard analgesics may require pharmacist strength drugs or an antihistamine. Nurofen Migraine Pain 24 Caplets MUSCLE CRAMPS A Muscle Cramp is a painful and prolonged spasm in a muscle, which refuses to stretch out again following contraction. Common signs and symptoms of muscle cramps include: A sharp, sudden and painful spasm or tightening of a muscle; Extremely severe cramps in the arms and legs, which may begin without warning; Persistent cramping pains in lower abdominal muscles, which may occur with back pain or during menstruation. The abdominal muscles are commonly affected and may also indicate heat cramps. Persistent and severe cramping may indicate a serious condition so it is strongly advised that you seek the advice of a medical practitioner. The following may help relieve muscular cramps: Drink six to eight glasses of water every day; Begin an exercise program; Practice regular stretching exercises, such as yoga. Smoking may also provoke Muscle Cramps. Muscle cramping is most commonly associated with an imbalance in calcium, magnesium and potassium levels however these supplements may only be of assistance if dietary intake is inadequate. $32.99 Ethical Nutrients Mega Magnesium Powder 250g SINUSITIS This may be caused by an allergy or a viral, bacterial or fungal infection. Your Doctor may recommend a procedure to flush out the sinuses or increase the size of the openings, where the sinuses enter the nasal cavity.
