2 The Bryan-Dumon Series II Rigid Bronchoscope features stainless steel, color-coded, interchangeable bronchial and tracheal tubes. 6 Dumon Style Silicone Stents Dumon style silicone stents are made out of implantable silicone which is coated to ensure non-adherence. Special studs prevent migration by imbedding themselves slightly into the airway mucosa, yet still allow for collateral ventilation between the stent and the airway wall. Dumon style silicone stents have beveled ends to maximize airflow and prevent granulation tissue from forming. These stents are designed to be removable, and thus they can safely be used for both malignant and benign diseases. 7 DJ-Fistula Silicone Stents DJ-Fistula Stents are cufflink-shaped silicone prostheses for the palliation of malignant tracheobronchial-esophageal fistulas. Stents are made out of implantable, radiopaque, medicalgrade silicone and are FDA approved for use beyond 30 days. DJ-Fistula Stents offer several advantages over other stents used for tracheobronchial-esophageal fistulas such as; eight different sizes, offering a customized fit; mushroom top design that seals the fistula from the tracheal side; and an axis which blocks the passage between the trachea and esophagus. The ellipse design on the esophageal side allows for easy deployment of the stent into the fistula from the trachea, by simply using a rigid bronchoscope and grasping forceps. DJ-Fistula Stents have a very small contact area with the tissue which minimizes the risk for potential complications. I ve performed all my fistula stent procedures with rigid bronchoscopy under general anesthesia. First, the location and size of the fistula were assessed. Then, the appropriate size stent was selected and inserted carefully with alligator forceps. In all cases we achieved appropriate closure of the fistula. Patient experienced symptoms of relief after stent placement, particularly of those symptoms related to airway aspiration. There were no complications related to the stent. 11 General Information General Instructions - Telescope To protect your Bryan-Dumon Telescope, please follow these instructions. Please note, instructions are NOT intended to serve as a guideline for endoscopic surgery or as a training manual. To avoid defects or other limitations of use, please adhere to the following instructions for handling, storage and transport. These instructions apply to both new and previously used scopes. As with any optical device, Bryan Telescopes are fragile and should be handled with care Always hold the telescope by its eyepiece or body, never by the tube Do not bend the tube, or otherwise add mechanical stress Avoid contact between the objective lens and other instruments or surfaces If possible, store telescopes individually Inspection and Care Upon receipt, as well as before and after each use, telescopes should be carefully inspected for damage, scratches, tenacious coagulation encrustations and any other defects. All optical and mechanical surfaces should be inspected. The scope should also be inspected after cleaning, disinfection and sterilization. It is important that there are no defects such as rough surfaces or sharp edges. These defects could create severe risk for the end user, patient and third parties. The image quality should be checked to make sure it is clean and free of distortions. Additionally, check the light transmission through the fibers. To do so, hold the light guide connector against a light (not a cold light source). If numerous fibers appear as black spots on the distal end, the light output is insufficient. The black spots are broken fibers. Should any of the above mentioned deviations be found, the scope should be returned to the manufacturer. Cleaning, Disinfection and Sterilization Bryan-Dumon Telescopes can be processed by any of the following methods: Steris, Sterrad, autoclave (when marked as such), ETO, CIDEX and Henkel-Ecolab Sekumatic FRE. Bryan-Dumon Telescopes MAY NOT be cleaned using ultrasonic cleaner or washer sterilizer. Service Only Bryan Corporation authorized and trained repair facilities are able to perform a high-quality repair using original replacement parts. If a Bryan Corporation product is serviced by an unauthorized facility, the safety of the product may be jeopardized. Warranties on Bryan Corporation products, as well as any liability for safety, are voided if the instrument has been repaired or otherwise handled by an unauthorized facility.
