1 Annual Report

2 I have received fantastic support from Volunteer Now and cannot recommend the organisation highly enough.

3 Chairman and Chief Executive s Report Volunteer Now Annual Report 2011/2012 The year started with the selection of the NI volunteers who wanted to be Games Makers for the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games. The end of the year saw the Minister for Social Development launch the NI Volunteering Strategy and Action Plan; an important policy framework for the recognition, promotion and support of volunteering over the next three to five years. During the year Volunteer Now s role in providing both regional and local infrastructure support allowed us to transfer knowledge and skills across a range of areas of work and communities. Whether it was holding a recognition event for 600 young Millennium Volunteers, providing an information stand about volunteering at the Fermanagh Show, helping a school in Magherafelt to deliver an international volunteer opportunity for their pupils, hosting turn up and try events for over 50s in Newry, working with public, voluntary and community and private sector organisations in Derry/L derry to frame a volunteering strategy for the City s 2020 vision and the City of Culture 2013, dealing with 4,000 queries about volunteer management, supporting Newtownabbey Borough Council with their volunteer awards, producing policy briefings and engaging with MLAs, providing mapping information for 15 Councils on volunteering in their area, the focus has always been about valuing volunteer involvement and delivering cohesive, consistent, quality services. The organisation has a strong staff and volunteer team and we are indebted to them for their hard work and commitment. Thanks also to the Board of Trustees who have continued to provide strong and effective leadership within a challenging financial environment. The demand for our services continues to grow and Volunteer Now appreciates the support of all our funders in helping us to deliver activities that meet the needs of individuals, organisations and communities. I have recently retired and volunteering was new to me. When I heard about the One Good Reason Action Day, I thought that it sounded fun - it was an opportunity to try something totally new. I really enjoyed it! 5
