1 Isle of Wight Pony Club Newsletter Easter 2016 Issue Dear All, Spring is finally in the air! I can feel it and so can the ponies! Soon we ll be packing away all those heavy rugs and mud fever ointments and stocking up on fly spray and sun block. We have rallies and a Children s meet with the IW Foxhounds this Easter holiday all based at Westover thanks to the very kind and supportive Weeks family. It would be lovely to see lots of you there. We are going to group the rides at the rallies according to the tests you have so that we can start to identify again who is ready to take their next test. If you would like a workbook to help you learn the theory ready for your next test, please let us know and we will arrange to get you one. Fingers crossed that this warm dry spell continues so that we can start to use our field again. We have lots of events planned from showing to jumping as well as rallies in the evening as we see them getting lighter. You are always welcome at events mounted or unmounted and I know I say it a lot but the more we see you the more we get to know you, so even if you can t get your pony there do come and help! As some people may know we have decided to change bank accounts recently as we are very interesting on online banking this should be taking affect soon. Meanwhile we have also decided to close our PayPal account, it was a lot of hassle to get a charity account. However with our online banking coming into play, soon we will be able to take BACS payments for shows, rallies, spider rides, camps everything! We will still take cash etc. but if you would like more information on paying via BACS, please do not hesitate to contact me, you can find my details on the website. 4 Hello All, We have new instructor to add to the team! Please join us in welcome Carla Maskill. Carla is an Islander that started competing with ponies as a young girl and progressed to horses as she got older, mainly in dressage but has competed across all disciplines. She has had the privilege of representing the Island in dressage and competing in BD. We are really happy to have you Carla and we hope you enjoy teaching for us. Also on the 14 th of May, there will be an Instructors Training day at George s field and we are in need of some guinea pigs at all test levels. If you are happy to volunteer yourself and your pony please get in touch with Kirsty, you will benefit from a free lesson and don t worry, it s the instructors being tested not you! Lisa Paul Chief Instructor Hello everyone, I am very excited about camp, we all had such a good time last year and every camp was well attended. I am really looking forward to seeing you all at lots of events this year. Camp Documents are now available on the website when searching for your camp dates. Just to reiterate, camp details are: Senior Camp - Junior Camp - Mini Camp - 30 th July to 6 th August (deposit 50) 18 th to 21 st August (deposit 30) 20 th to 21 st August (deposit 15)

5 Please send all the forms and monies back to me as soon as possible at the address on the letter to guarantee a place. However just to make you all aware, at some point in the near future I will be moving house. I don t have a moving date yet but once I do I will inform everyone way in advance so that you can send the forms to the new address and they won t get lost. Sarah Dover Child Protection Officer and Camp Secretary Dear All, We have managed to hold a few rallies over the winter period including Little Kennerley Farm, Vittlefields Farm, Westover Manor and Idris Stables. We have two rallies coming up over the Easter holidays that are both are at Westover Manor, details can been seen in the upcoming events section. You will be aware that when deciding groups we usually take age and/or ability into consideration. However, this time we will be grouping members into tests, this means your will be working towards and learning about the next Pony Club test you will be taking. Lists will be published shortly. Hopefully after Easter I can start looking at booking rallies for the summer term half term and summer holidays at George s Field. I am also thinking about another mainland crosscountry rally! To those who have attended already, thank you for using the BACS payment method, it has made life much easier for the committee, especially Nicky.

6 We have a few new members; I am looking forward to meeting them and catching up with existing members soon. If anyone wants to chat to me, please get in touch. Miriam Horstman Clinic and Rally Organiser Useful Tips Spring 1. With the weather warming up and the sudden change in temperature, the very expensive leather that you own for your ponies to wear, that is sitting in a tack box right now might start going mouldy. A good tip; why not buy a fleece saddle cover to keep it safe from mildew. 2. With spring arriving, before we know it we ll need fly spray! So why not start brewing your own potions to save money on buying shop products. Here is our favourite recipe which can be made in an left over 2lt fizzy drink bottle: - Citronella 60ml - 2 cap fulls of meth - 1 strong cup of tea (cold) - Fill to the top with cold water - Add peppermint or lavender (optional) Use before shows and it is also a very good crass stain remover! 3. Don t forget that the grass will be growing rapidly. So if your horse didn t loose any pounds over the winter, it might be worth buying a muzzle for them to wear whilst out in the field the grass is going to be really rich!
