5 Breakout Session 3 2:30 PM continued Meeting Room 2 Positive Living: Using Positive Psychology to Enhance Caregiver Well-Being The experience of first-episode psychosis can have a strong and lasting impact on both the individual and their family, or indigenous support system. Researchers have found that enhancing active coping strategies, reducing stress, and strengthening communication skills can have a positive impact on outcomes for the individual. However, there appears to be a lack of specific interventions for families and caregivers dealing with the effects of first-episode psychosis or serious and persistent mental illness (SPMI). This presentation will introduce the tenants of positive psychology and Positive Living, a strengths-based group intervention. Additionally, we will present the rationale for adapting Positive Living for implementation in community-based settings aimed at reducing stress and enhancing strengths, communication, and use of meaningful coping strategies among caregivers or indigenous supports. All of the staff work in collaboration to identify, assess, treat and refer inmates experiencing a mental health situation while in custody. The Yellow Line Project is designed to provide an early response to individuals with acute or chronic mental or chemical health problems who have become involved with law enforcement and are not a risk to the community. The Yellow Line Project enhances the resources and tools available to law enforcement so that residents of Blue Earth County get the right services at the right time and have strong incentives to participate in those services.
