4 WELCOME Jordan Feld, MD, MPH Meeting Chair Margaret Hellard, MBBS, FRACP, FAFPHM, PhD Meeting Chair Hepatitis B and C affect more than 320 million people globally and can lead to liver disease and mortality from liver failure and hepatocellular carcinoma. More than 248 million people (3.8% of the world s population) are chronically infected with HBV, and over 700,000 deaths are attributable to it annually. An estimated 80 million people (globally, 1.1%) are chronically infected with the hepatitis C virus (HCV), resulting in nearly 500,000 deaths annually. Key issues to be addressed are how to translate research outcomes into public health policy and practice to meet the 2030 elimination targets. During this two day meeting experts in viral hepatitis from around the globe will examine current evidence on how to implement programs that improve the prevention of viral hepatitis, and increase the number of people accessing testing and treatment. Involving community organizations, researchers, public health practitioners and clinicians, the program includes practical examples of innovative intervention studies, country elimination programs and novel funding mechanisms testing and treatment, all focusing on meeting the 2030 targets. We invite you to contribute to elimination of viral hepatitis and look forward to welcoming you to this unique meeting in Amsterdam Jordan Feld & Margaret Hellard #18 4 International Viral Hepatitis Elimination Meeting () Meeting Prospectus
5 MEETING DESCRIPTION NEEDS STATEMENT The field of viral hepatitis treatment is undergoing major changes and is on the verge of a paradigm shift. There are great hopes for the elimination of viral hepatitis. Many new treatment options are becoming available through the introduction of Direct Acting Antivirals (DAAs) and are providing great hopes for decreasing the burden of disease and simplifying the treatment of viral hepatitis. The International Viral Hepatitis Elimination Meeting () is a global forum for the exchange of practical experiences in the translation of diagnostic and therapy advances into broad applications that accelerate progress toward elimination of viral hepatitis as a public health threat. The program features outstanding international experts that address strategies regarding testing & screening, care & cure, prevention, and innovative models to finance elimination strategies. TARGET AUDIENCE PROGRAM DESCRIPTION This 2-day meeting consists of invited lectures, roundtable discussions and abstracts. In order to ensure an interactive workshop setting, much time is allocated to discussion. MEETING OBJECTIVES To provide a forum for knowledge exchange and discussion of practical experiences of advances in diagnostics and clinical management of viral hepatitis. To provide a toolbox for practical application of research & development, for evidence based policy making To facilitate cross-disciplinary discussion on barriers and challenges to come to the elimination of viral hepatitis ACCREDITATION This workshop will not be a CME accredited activity. Healthcare professionals, including but not limited to clinicians, researchers, policy makers, virologists, pharmacologists, industry representatives, and those looking beyond the individual patient and who would like to be involved in the elimination of viral hepatitis. 6 MEETING DESCRIPTION LEARNING OUTCOMES & IMPACT After attending this program participants will be able: To identify the roadblocks and the challenges in implementing viral hepatitis elimination strategies To recognize the needs from a public health perspective and respond to these needs by reshaping their policy making approaches To further develop new or already existing foundations for political commitment, national planning and program improements. To translate the latest research and technologies into clinical policy and practice for delivering adequate continuum of hepatitis services. ASSESSMENT METHOD To assess the meeting, Virology Education provides each delegate with a detailed feedback form where they can assess the speakers, whether or not the meeting objectives were met, their intent to change, the rationale behind their motivation to attend, the general logistics of the meeting, and much more. All the questions are then fully analyzed and a comprehensive report is created and shared with the committee members. These reports help us better understand our delegates and how to make the next meeting better. For a maximum response rate, we invite the chairs of each session to encourage the participants to take a few minutes and complete the feedback forms. We are also introducing a web-based application to allow participants access to the feedback forms electronically 6 International Viral Hepatitis Elimination Meeting () Meeting Prospectus
7 CONFERENCE PARTICIPATION GRANTS The conference participation grants provide healthcare professionals with the opportunity to attend a conference they would otherwise be unable to attend due to financial restrictions. All applications include a CV, a motivation letter, and potentially an abstract (requirements vary depending on the workshop). These are submitted via an independent CPG portal and are evaluated against the assessment criteria using robust, impartial and independent peer review processes by the Grant Review Committee. This process will ensure that only the highest quality, most relevant and most competitive research is accepted but that it is. The grants are supported by the financial contributions allocated by the sponsor, who, has no control, influence, or involvement in the selection process of the attendees whatsoever. Priority is given to applicants who have actively participated in original research or scientific work that is being presented at the meeting and/or those who will profit most from participating in order to improve their daily clinical management. These grants help defray costs for registration, travel and accommodation for delegates and foster their ability to form valuable professional networks and develop vital collaborations. Conference participation grant applications will be solicited, selected and awarded by an expert Grant Review Committee. ENDURING MATERIALS INFECTIOUS DISEASES ONLINE Enduring information presented at the conference will be freely retrievable and widely disseminated to reach thousands of virtual participants beyond the walls of the conference center.
