WELCOME! We are excited that you have decided to join us by committing to a leadership role in your chapter. To help you with your journey we have outlined the history of the Academy and the resources that are available to you. So sit back and enjoy the show!
History The American Academy of Pediatrics was founded in June The founding members chose the name American Academy of Pediatrics (and not the American Academy of Pediatricians), to reflect their commitment to the interests of children and the pediatric specialty.
History (continued) Since 1930, the Academy has grown to approximately 66,000 members in the United States, Canada and the world (see the next slide for a breakdown of international members). Members include pediatricians, medical subspecialists and surgical specialists. More than 46,000 members are board-certified in pediatrics and called Fellows of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP).

AAP Strategic Plan Mission The mission of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is to attain optimal physical, mental, and social health and well-being for all infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. To accomplish this mission, the AAP shall support the professional needs of its members.
We believe: AAP Strategic Plan Core Values: In the inherent worth of all children, they are our most enduring and vulnerable legacy. Children deserve optimal health and the highest quality health care. Pediatricians, Pediatric Subspecialists, and Pediatric Surgical Specialists, and subspecialists are the best qualified to provide child health care. Multidisciplinary teams including patients and families are integral to delivering the highest quality health care. The AAP is the organization to advance child health and well-being and the profession of pediatrics.
AAP Strategic Plan Vision Children have optimal health and well-being and are valued by society. Academy members practice the highest quality health care and experience professional satisfaction and personal well-being.
