Linda Csiza, Terry Ellis, KMac, Kari Dunning 1.2 Explore mechanisms to facilitate translation and integration of research into daily clinical practice by SECTION ON NEUROLOGY STRATEGIC PLAN FOR 2016 MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Neurology Section is to promote optimal recovery, wellness and quality of life in persons with movement dysfunction due to neurologic conditions through advancement of evidence-based physical therapy practice, education, and research. VISION STATEMENT The Neurology Section will enable a collaborative network of consumers, clinicians, investigators, and others to enhance practice, influence policy, and be a leading partner in global rehabilitation communities to promote excellence in physical therapy practice. Goal 1: Advance the use of evidence into daily clinical physical therapy practice using a systematic feasible approach Assess baseline knowledge Assess post course knowledge Assess application of knowledge into daily clinical practice Add an explicit thread of knowledge translation into Practice committee, existing Section initiatives (courses, website features, SIGs etc ) Propose and discuss new methods the Section may develop to facilitate translation (e.g., pre-packaged journal clubs, webinars, discussion groups, abstract of the week, podcasts, etc Prioritize and implement new strategies to facilitate 2016 knowledge translation in daily clinical practice.

7 Influence APTA priorities by having either a representation or a key contact on the Public Policy and Advocacy Committee [Chair: Paul Rocker; Amy Klein (Education/MGH); Roger Herr (Private Practice)]. 4.3 Partner with at least 2 other organizations to Work with Justin Moore, Vice President, Government collaborate on ways to improve access to physical therapy for patients with neurological dysfunction. (12/) Affairs, Payment Policy, & Advocacy and the APTA to identify two organizations whose advocacy agenda matches closely with the Neurology section Reach out and establish a working relationship with those partner organizations Identify policy issues that allows collaboration between the partner organizations Develop and implement strategies that can positively affect those policies that directly affect access to physical therapy services for patients with neurological dysfunction. 4.4 Develop and implement a plan to work with the chapters to more effectively impact legislation process that improves access to physical therapy services (state issues). 4.5 Identify and collaborate with at least two key partners to improve funding for research that demonstrates the effectiveness of physical therapy for patients with neurologic dysfunction that helps to promote consumer access to appropriate services Identify the Section s advocacy agenda and explore how that agenda may relate to activities that may require implementation at the state level Meet with APTA staff in Advocacy and State Government Affairs (Justin Elliott) to determine where member activity may have a targeted impact relative to meeting the Section s legislative agenda Publish articles in the e-newsletter on a monthly basis that specifically addresses issues related to the Section s advocacy agenda identify section members that are delegates who can help the Section influence APTA policies that are important to consumer access to appropriate physical therapy services. 2015
