DISCUSSION As a board, do we feel like we can sign the agreement? We have provided feedback on the agreement. What is final is not ideal for the CIOCNS affiliate. Each point was discussed on the board s positioning. Appendix 1 1. In which activities can 501C6s participate? 2. If, as a 501C6 entity, we can serve as a reference for/endorse Synergistic Evolution, then the board will need to discuss taking this, the next action: Appendix 2 1. Jason has volunteered to co-sponsor October s dinner meeting The VA responded back and said no. Is this a verbiage issue? Do we say co-host instead of cosponsor? This is an actual federal law and it s from the VA which is government run. Employees are unable to accept vendor items (meals, items, etc.) Discussion of Decision/follow up action 2. Decision made to sign NACNS affiliate agreement without any opposition from board members. Kerista will sign agreement and return to NACNS before the August deadline. 1. Kerista will investigate and the board the product of her findings. 2. (Member TBD) will clarify with Cindy any remaining questions we may have (e.g. if CIOCNS serves as reference or endorsement, does CIOCNS have to take any actions?, Is there a term length for the commitment?, etc.) 1. This topic will be discussed at the next dinner meeting. Should a particular person over who is a coordinator (person) with a vendor to host? We will discuss possibly pulling a subcommittee together to begin working on hosting these events.

Immediate Past Jennifer Woodard Conference Planning Update Student Liaison Strategic Plan Updates Deb/Brandee 1. Valle Vista has been held for conference dates. Brandee related that the conference planning committee is closing on identifying speakers. We have received an IONE grant $2500 (less than thought) this year to use for the speakers. Plenty of funds are available to cover whatever current speakers we have identified and promised. We will possibly write for more money next year, and submit for larger IONE grant. As we grow, we should push forward with as many speakers as possible in order to improve our conference. Save the date is on the website. Call for poster abstracts link is not working. Link to click for pics from last years event has been archived. 1. Open discussion. Students were added to the board list. This is the first meeting they were invited to. Elizabeth and Kate are currently on the call. Elizabeth is in the peds CNS program at IUPUI. 3 rd semester. She is currently the clinical educator at IU North. Joined CIOCNS last year, heard about the role and was interested. Kate Mills, student at USI, masters in nursing ed. Post master s degree. 3 semesters to go. CNS intern at community Howard. Introductions from board and 3.3 CNS contributions..membership form. How do we move forward in compiling that data? 2. Jan Powers and Jan Fulton are looking how to rescue the data that was pulled for Before Ann goes on maternity leave we should look at strategic plan for next year? Dinner meeting august 9 th? 1. Kerista is looking into the website regarding why the poster abstract link is not working. Kate continues to work on the vendor list and contracts. That list will be approved at their next meeting. Kate sending this list to Kerista to upload so that we have something to work off of next year. 1. Brandee will open up an dialogue regarding pulling data from these membership forms. A possible WebEx with the board is an option for a quick orientation. 2. The board will consider meeting prior to the next dinner meeting. Kerista will set a meeting for an hour and a half prior to the dinner meeting to discuss.

Since we had an opportunity to teach at the CIOCNS last fall I am reaching out to ask if you would be willing to serve as a reference for Synergistic Evolution, (Cindy and Sheri ) for a proposal with LeadingAge Indiana to provide educational offerings/coaching services? We proposed teaching: relationship effectiveness, safety, leadership (for the new leader and for the experienced leader). We offered to go the various regions around the state to take the class to the customer. Secondly, we would develop relationships with various customers and hopefully be hired to assess facilities for needs around further communication development, process improvement, ect. LeadingAge Indiana is a membership organization that offers education, networking, and leadership development (to name a few) for non-profit facilities offering care to the elderly. Below is their vision and mission: Vision It is LeadingAge Indiana's vision to be the association of choice for human services organizations which provide services to persons in need, with a particular focus on the elderly. Mission LeadingAge Indiana assists members to provide the highest quality of life for those they serve. LeadingAge Indiana is an association representing not-for-profit services and facilities for the elderly. Members are non-profit organizations, providing high quality health care, services and housing for over 25,000 seniors throughout Indiana. Our members are sponsored by or affiliated with religious, fraternal, governmental, and community organizations. Mission of Service: LeadingAge Indiana members are driven by a mission of service within their communities. Our goal is to promote and protect the welfare and wellbeing of the elderly served by our members and to help achieve high standards of care and service by our members. As a full service association, we provide members with education, group services, up-to-date information, networking, and leadership development, as well as prompt, efficient service for the professional staff. You cannot sponsor dinners or use vendors to sponsor dinner. I will add Ted Korupp who has excellent knowledge regarding this type of issue. My god, I got this yesterday from my boss. I am both embarrassed and sorry that I volunteered us. I am willing to help in whatever way I can. The thing that kills me is that the VA somehow believes this creates a conflict of interest. Maybe that would be true if we weren't already a customer of the sponsor, but what harm is there in this? Its also funny that with the whole APN role, I can prescribe about any medicatio n after taking a pharm class...but apparently I cannot be trusted to interact with a vendor without being "bought"...
