7 8.1.2 DEPUTY HEAD: ACADEMIC As the Deputy head: Academic, I am responsible for quality control, standardisation and curriculum planning for the full programme. This also entails internal moderation of all exam papers, overseeing equal work loads of staff and management of studentrelated queries and problems. 8.2 POST GRADUATE STUDENTS CO-PRESENTER OF MASTERS IN NUTRITION - DISTANCE EDUCATION COURSE Subject: Nutritional Epidemiology This is a compulsory 6 month module (18 weeks) comprising 45 credits. All the students enrolled for the structured Masters programme start with this module during the first 6 months of year 1. I am responsible for the compilation, update and presentation of the biggest component of this course (16 weeks), and the statistician is responsible for the presentation of 2 weeks. There are on average students enrolled for this course annually. Ethics Approval number: N10/07/ GLYCAEMIC INDEX TESTING The GI testing laboratory was started in May Since its inception I have tested more than 260 food products. Ethics Approval number: N05/03/ DIVISIONAL RESEARCH RESEARCH FOCUS AREA: SPECIALISED NUTRITION SUPPORT The Division of Human Nutrition has 4 research focus areas. I am the team leader for the focus area: Specialised Nutrition Support. 13 project in The topic of our research project Assessment of the Implementation of the New Road-to-Health Booklet (RtHB) in Primary Health Care Facilities in the Western Cape Province was established in consultation with the Nutrition Directorate: Department of Health, Western Cape. This project of which I am the Principle Investigator will run over 3 years ( ). Ethics Approval number: N11/09/270. Data gathering for all 3 phases is complete and I am in the process of finalising the report. As PI, I was responsible for the protocol compilation and submission to ethics committee, training and standardisation of all the fieldworkers, planning and control of all aspects of the data gathering phase, and from now onwards, data analysis and reporting. I was also responsible for securing money for the project. To date, I have received money from the Faculty of Health Sciences (Harry Crossley fund; Research assistance fund, FIRRH fund) and the Provincial Department of Health. 9.3 STUDENT RESEARCH Study leader for B.Sc.
