It is a clear, colorless, practically odorless, medium viscous, water-soluble liquid, which features low toxicity, exceptional stability, high flash and boiling points, low vapor pressure and broad solvency power. DOW PuraGuard PG USP/EP may offer excellent versatility for a wide variety of animal feed formulations: Excellent humectant that helps increase and maintain moisture content (see Table 1) Helps increase animal feed product shelf life when stored according to Dow s recommendations 4 Natural preservative that helps to protect against a wide range of bacterial and fungal species, including mold (see Table 2) Effective solvent for animal feed ingredients like flavors, many oils and organic compounds Freezing point depressant that helps to simplify bulk handling and allows feed storage at low temperatures Serves as a readily available energy source with a caloric value of 4.0 calories per gram (food calories) when defined as a carbohydrate, and measured value of 5.7 calories per gram in chicken 5 up to 1.5 times the caloric value of molasses, according to the general definition for a carbohydrate as given in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (U.S. FDA) 21 CFR 101.9(c)(1)(i)(B) 6 Excellent wetting agent when mixed with molasses, eventually improving the handling characteristics of the final feed mix by reducing backup and subsequent stickiness of equipment 1 DOW PuraGuard PG USP/EP is tested against and complies with the specific requirements of current USP, EP and JP. The DOW PuraGuard trade name is currently commercially available only in North America, in conjunction with IPEA certification. Though the IPEA third-party IPEC GMP certification has been received only by the two North American PG USP/EP manufacturing sites; DOW PuraGuard PG USP/EP follows the same manufacturing process and meets the same product composition and impurity profile as standard PG USP/EP. DOW PuraGuard PG USP/EP is tested against and certified according to the requirements for the following standards: Food Chemicals Codex (FCC) United States Pharmacopeia (USP) European Pharmacopeia (PhEur or EP) Japanese Pharmacopeia (JP) All requirements of these monographs are included on Dow s globally applied Sales Specification and Certificate of Analysis (CoA) for DOW PuraGuard PG USP/EP, including, as of February 1, 2010, specific testing for MEG/DEG contents, which are both non-detectable in this product. DOW PuraGuard PG USP/EP complies with existing legislative requirements for animal feed in different global geographies. Applicable local government regulations should be consulted for details on approved and appropriate applications for DOW PuraGuard PG USP/EP. United States The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) lists Propylene Glycol USP/EP as Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) as an emulsifying agent according to 21 CFR and as a general food additive according to 21 CFR (except for use in cat food). No tolerances or use limitations are listed other than those dictated by Good Manufacturing Practices. Propylene Glycol USP/EP is not GRAS for cat food and should not be used in that application according to 21 CFR and

5 European Union (EU) Re-classified in 2010 as animal feed material as per Commission Regulation (EU) No. 892/2010 7, replacing the listing as feed additive pursuant to Regulation (EC) No. 1831/2003 under the synonym propane-1,2-diol, coded as EEC No. E490. Not on the list of approved additives for cat foodstuffs. Regional authorities have inspected, approved and registered Dow s propylene glycol (PG) manufacturing facility in Stade, Germany, as an animal feed additive producer based on EU and corresponding German legislation (number DE NI ). The production and handling of PG at the Dow site in Stade, Germany, complies with the requirements of Regulation (EC) No. 183/2005 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 January 2005, laying down requirements for feed hygiene 8.
