A major interest of my postdoctoral training is to develop functional analysis of gene(s) or gene regulation related to energy metabolism and trans-differentiation of muscle cell to adipocyte. 2 Post Doctoral Associate (May 2006 to April 2008): Department of Animal Science and Industry, Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas, USA. i) USDA funded projects titled on Defining the mechanisms of steroids-enhanced muscle growth in steers: Individual roles of trenbolone acetate, estradiol, and IGF-I. ii) Kansas Beef Council funded projects titled on Conversion of muscle-derived cells from beef cattle to adipocytes (fat cells) in a cell culture model. Research Assistant (September 2002 to May 2006): Department of Animal Science, Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, USA. Research projects focused on: i) molecular analysis of adiposity related genes (SCD, FAS, PPARγ, C/EBPβ, Pref 1, TNFα, and LPL) in bovine and 3T3-L1 preadipocyte; ii) estimation of SCD gene expression and enzyme activity and lipogenesis for the identification of diet, breed, and time difference in bovine adipose tissue; and iii) demonstration of transdifferentiation of muscle satellite cells to adipocytes in a bovine primary cell culture system. Research Intern Program (May 2000 to April 2001): Sponsored by the Korean Science and Engineering Foundation (KOSEF), Animal Physiology and Endocrinology Lab., Yeungnam University, Institute of Biotechnology, Gyungsan, Korea. Research projects focused on: i) identification and utilization of Korean native domestic animal resources; ii) primary culture of regional adipocytes extracted from rats, pigs, and Korean native cattle; iii) screening of differentiation conditions for preadipocyte primary culture; and iv) estimation of leptin and adipose-related gene expression in bovine species. Visiting scholar (Sept to Dec. 1999): Muscle Biology Lab., Department of Animal Science, Washington State University, Pullman, USA. Research projects focused on: i) identification of myogenic satellite cell proliferation and differentiation; ii) screening of differentiation conditions for satellite cells; and iii) estimation of leptin and adipose related gene expression in sheep.
