He is well-respected nationally and internationally, and is a regular speaker on the national and international circuit. He completed his residency and advanced surgical training at Royal Perth Hospital. After gaining FRACS Ortho in 1994, he undertook three years of overseas fellowship training in the area of hip and knee arthroplasty and revision surgery, initially at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford UK, followed by a further year at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, and finally a fellowship in pelvic and acetabular trauma at Parkland Memorial Trauma Centre, Dallas Texas. Dr. Collopy works as a Consultant at St John of God Private Hospitals in Perth. His research interests are in hip and knee implant design and fixation and he was one of the design surgeons on the Emperion revision hip system, the Triathlon knee system and the AccoladeII hip system. Since 1988 he returned to the teaching staff of the faculty of medicine in Ain Shams, working up the career from lecturer to professor, where he participated in various local, regional, and international publications and research, spanning the fields of Arthroplasty, Bone Infections, Osteoporosis, Arthritis, and Pain management. In 1998 he founded (Arthroclub), a private non-profit group linked academically to Ain Shams University aiming at advancing arthroplasty concepts in Egypt; which became a milestone in teaching and training many young surgeons in arthroplasty. Presently he is the president of the Egyptian Arthroplasty Group (EAG), the arthroplasty subspecialty group og the Egyptian Orthopaedics Association.Graduated in December 1976 from the Faculty of medicine of Ain Shams University, and obtained basic training in Trauma and Orthopaedics in Demerdash University Hospital. 13
