GB 1. Application The K PRO is used for orthotic fitting of the knee. As funtional knee orthosis it protects preventively against injuries or it is used within rehabilitation. 2. Indications - Functional protection at work as well as for free time and sport activities - Injury to the anterior cruciate ligament - Injury to the posterior cruciate ligament - Injury to the medial and lateral capsular ligament - Injury to the menisci - Genu recurvatum (hyperextension of the knee) 3. Choosing the right orthosis size Get the knee s M/L measurement and choose the appropriate orthosis size. For that the knee should be extended and the muscles should be flexed. Art. no. 6 7. Donning the orthosis For an optimum function of the K PRO respect the following indications For an easy donning on the knee s front side flex slightly the knee (approx ) so that the muscles are relaxed (fig. 2). Place the centre of the K PRO joints at the same level like the kneecap s centre (fig. 3). 2. Two hook and pile straps are staggered attached to the orthosis (fig. 2). Hook and pile straps 4 and 1 are outside attached and from inside pulled through the loop. Hook and pile straps 3 and 2 are inside attached and from outside pulled through the loop. So a displacement of the orthosis can be avoided when closing the orthosis Close the four hook and pile straps as follows: 1 - hook and pile strap 1 (fig. 4/1) With this strap the orthosis is mostly fixed to the leg. Since the strap runs over the calf an orthosis slipping can be avoided. - hook and pile strap 2 (fig. 5/2) 4 - hook and pile strap 3 (fig. 6/3) - hook and pile strap 4 (fig. 7/4) Indication: The hook and pile straps have to be tight fitted but they must not apply pressure to the muscles and soft parts

8. Customise the K PRO to the patient s leg anatomy 8.1 M/L measurement Customise the K PRO to the M/L measurement as follows: 1. Bring your knee in maximum extension. Check the distance between skin and knee pad holder (fig. 8-9) for choosing the appropriate knee pad thickness. Knee pads of 2, 4, 6 and 8 mm thickness are included in the delivery Before gluing the knee pads on inside and outside check if you have chosen the right thickness. First only apply the pads on the knee pad cover. Consider that the pads should only have contact to the knee and that they are not too tight-fitting. The M/L measurement of the orthosis should correspond to the M/L measurement of the knee (fig. 10). Indication: For an optimum knee guidance the knee pads must fit positively to the knee. They can be customised by grinding. 3. Cover the pad and the holder with the knee pad cover Anatomical compensation pads The anatomical compensation pads (included in scope of delivery) are used for customising the K PRO to the patient s anatomy. In the following paragraphs you will get an idea about the different possibilities for optimising the orthosis fitting (fig. 11) Shin The patient can feel pain at the shin due to its very individual run or due to a well-developed tibialis anterior muscle. By attaching the shin pads (fig. 12) the shell is lifted and so the lower shin and as well as the muscle are relived

8.2.2 Inside below the knee If the K PRO does not fit positively inside below the knee, the appropriate pad can be attached (fig. 13) for compensating Inside above the knee 13 A cone shaped leg or less calf muscles can make the K PRO slip. To avoid this, the appropriate pad can be attached inside above the orthotic joints (fig. 14) Thigh and lower leg The position of the orthotic joints on the knee is always different because it depends on the leg volume. If the orthotic joints are placed behind the optimum position, you can attach inside of the orthosis anatomical compensation pads for the thigh and the lower leg for getting the joints forward. Pads with thicknesses of 5, 10 or 15 mm are included in the delivery. Place them in the middle of the frame of the thigh and/or the lower leg shell (fig. 15) Assembling the stops 0 extension stops are pre-assembled. 6 extension stops are included in the delivery. Other stops can be re-ordered separately (see accessory parts). For an optimum function of the joint respect the following assembling order: 1. Loosen both slotted pan head screws and remove the stop (fig. 16) Assemble the desired stop and fix it with both slotted pan head screws. Indication: Assemble the stop in the correct position. Fig. 17 Correct Fig. 18 False

10. Treating the orthosis Attention! The K PRO is not thermoformable and must not be heat treated because the matrix belongs to thermosetting plastics. 11. Knee protector (fig. 19) 11.1 Application The knee protector is included in the delivery of the K PRO. It protects the anatomical knee joint against injuries in extreme situations Scope of delivery The knee protector (fig. 20) consists of a shell (fig. 21/1) with an integrated kneecap pad and a neoprene fixation (Abb. 21/2). Both are available as replacement parts. Description Unit Quantity knee protector, complete (fig.21/1) 11.3 Replacement parts (see table and fig. 21) Pos Art. no. Description piece 1 1 KS knee protector shell 2 KS knee protector fixation

11.4 Attaching to the K PRO For an optimum function of the knee protector respect the following indications: Remove the knee pad covers (fig. 22). 2. Loosen the pad of the lower leg shell (fig. 23) For attaching the knee protector to the lower leg shell cover the knee pad holders with the knee protector fixation (fig ). 4. Loosen the Velcro female piece of the neoprene tongue of the knee protector fixation. Remove the protective cover. Attach the piece to the bottom end of the lower leg shell (fig. 26). To ensure a better adhesion to the surface of the orthosis heat the Velcro female piece. The surface has to be free of fat and dust. 5. Attach the neoprene tongue to the Velcro female piece (fig. 27). 6. Repeat the described action for the thigh shell. 7. Reattach the thigh and lower leg shell pads (fig. 28) Recover the knee pads with the knee pad covers (fig. 29). 9. Check if the knee protector works in an optimum way Treating the knee protector 28 If it is necessary to adapt the knee protector, it is possible to form it by hand and to heat it with a hotair gun (max. 180 C)

12. Cleaning the orthosis - Wash the hook and pile straps, strap pads and shell pads at a temperature of 40 C. - Wash occasionally the orthosis shells as well as the neoprene knee protector fixation with a gentle soap sud. 13. Maintenance/Service Check the K PRO after each using. If there is any malfunction or if you feel pain due to the K PRO contact immediately your trader. If necessary, you can also send the K PRO to your trader for maintenance. 14. Guarantee To issue a guarantee the K PRO has to be used under the described conditions and for the intended applications. FIOR & GENTZ GmbH accepts no liability for modifications on the K PRO. 20
