3 NAVIGATION hto ensure highest safety and precision when implanting the bone-sparing unicondylar knee prostheses, it is recommended to use the univation System exclusively with high-tech computer support during surgery. The navigation system is an indispensable and invaluable aid for the operating surgeon, particularly considering the reduced field of view. Excellent implant coverage in the load axis is made possible with the aid of intra-operative determination of the mechanical leg axes. As many studies have shown, the resulting large contact area has a beneficial impact on the durability of the prosthesis. Let OrthoPilot guide you safely. The MIOS Instruments, which are perfectly adapted to one another, in conjunction with the OrthoPilot Software Module UKA, provide for a safe, minimally invasive surgical technique. 4

5 NAVIGATION hadvantages of minimally invasive surgical techniques: h Reduction of tissue trauma h Reduction of postoperative pain h Earlier joint mobilization h Accelerated postoperative recovery h Improved cosmetic result For these reasons, the univation System unites the advantages of unicondylar knee implants with minimally invasive surgical technique and computer aided navigation. h In addition to implant alignment, a well-balanced ligament and joint space situation in extension and flexion is a further essential parameter for good physiological function of the univation concept. Only with well-balanced ligaments can the desired stability and kinematic function be achieved. The OrthoPilot Navigation System takes into account joint space measurements in extension and flexion as well as interactive 3D simulation for planning implant position and resection depths. Ergonomically shaped instruments and precise cutting tools are guided by the navigation system to create excellent bone surfaces for a perfect implant fit. The OrthoPilot supports tibia resections in the anteroposterior and sagittal directions as well as preparation of the femoral bone bed with regard to rotational inclination and varus/valgus-position. The degree of axis correction can be visualized any time via the load axes. 5

6 Minimally invasive and bone sparing UNIVATION one system two knees Only minimal bone resections of the femur and tibia are needed for ensuring secure anchorage. Form and position of the primary fixation elements on the metal components as well as the sturdy yet slim design of the implants make this possible. In vitro tests have shown that the PMMA-nanobond coating increases the time window for cement application by 50% to approx. 9 min. 8 Restoration of the natural knee function UNIVATION one system two knees Implantation of the unicondylar univation Prosthesis in an early disease stage can prevent the spread of arthrosis to other regions of the joint, and can achieve long-term relief of complaints. 8

9 PERFECTION hthe univation M mobile single radius concept supports restoration of natural knee function by maintaining the large contact area of the articular components during the whole sequence of movement. The beneficial consequence is low polyethylene abrasion, which results in a promising prospect of long-term success. univation M 150 h In addition to mechanical advantages, the highly congruent mobile meniscus component achieves excellent kinematic results, which come very close to the natural condition of the knee. 11 SYSTEM univation M hthe univation M System comprises a spherical femur component and an anatomically shaped tibia component with cement pockets for optimal fixation. A highly congruent meniscus component in a soft-tissuesparing design ensures controlled translation and completes the floating platform concept of the univation System.
